We leave for Mallorca next week and will be needing to hire a car for travelling around the island - we will need to pick the car up at the airport..
I have spent a huge amount of time researching car hire companies and have come across some pretty scary stories.
Please, if you hired a car there and had a good experience, would you share the name of the company.
The one company that pops up with good reviews is Terry's Car Hire (a UK based company). If anyone has used them I would appreciate your feedback.

Terry cannot be UK based as it operates in Spain.
The airport website gives the following information about car rentals.

Other rentals are not airport based.
I would not recommend Goldcar.

We rent from one of the major players---Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Sixt, with offices at the airport. The rental car prices are running quite high this year, especially at the Palma airport, as we found out in June.
We've had 5 rentals so far this year and have just had to bite the bullet regarding cost. Ouch.
Terry's is a British owned company operating in Palma and seems to get good reviews, but we have no experience with them.

The horror stories you've read probably refer to Gold Car and/or RecordGo. We avoid them like the plague.

Thank you @Mirabel. This is our 1st time to Mallorca and I did get a bit of a shock when I saw the rental prices but I guess it's either that or bicycle
Out of interest, I did contact Terry's but they are fully booked for the period that we are there.

car rentals are at higher prices then previous years. many reasons behind this. We all have to accept it.
There are buses and taxis.

That's really good to know! We'll keep them in mind for a future trip.

I’ve used them for 20 years , they have an extremely positive corporate culture based in Cala D’Or. Most Mallorquin families have known tourism before the Cost Del Sol could spell the word. They know how valuable tourism is, there is a demi Mafia of aristocratic families who don’t really tolerate systematic abuses of tourism. Gold car seemed to have slipped past their radar.

Autoroig now offer extremely expensive cars (e140k ) and appreciate what the people renting those cars value ie time not money. This culture filters down to their mass market operations - they usually allow you to drop the car key in a box at Palma airport’s multi-storey. In somewhere like Sicily I’d say this leaves you wide open to post rental charges but Autoroig respect their customers.

btw check out Carrefour in Palma , I think they have a Location office which hires out cars for peanuts.

Hope you’re having a great time in Mallorca. We’re probably heading there in December and would love to know how your experience with Roig car rental went. Did they pick you up from the airport? Where did you return the car?

At this point we’re not sure if we would pick up the car on arrival or a couple of days later. Same with the return.

​​​martharap My apologies for only replying now. ROIG were fantastic!!! (thank you BritishCaicos for the recommendation).
They collect you from the airport by means of a continuous shuttle that runs every 15 mins - super easy to find when you exit the airport.
You return the car to them and they then run you to the airport.
The admin involved when picking up and dropping off was painless. The car was in excellent condition. We were able to take Super Cover at a good price so we did not have to worry about any dings and scratches. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They were a pleasure to deal with.

Thanks so much for your great review of ROIG. I wish I had known about them for our last summer's rental, but now I'll certainly know to book with them when we return to the island.

We have just (sadly) returned to the USA after six weeks in Mallorca. We rented our car through ROIG based on this thread and can confirm that they were a great company to deal with!
