Hi!
My friends and I are headed to Mallorca in August. We are also planning to spend some time in Barcelona and the surrounding areas. How much time is needed in Mallorca? For now, we are planning to spend 3 or 4 days there.
Thanks!

I was in Mallorca last summer. 3-4 days is perfect. I spent four. I didn't have enough time in Barcelona, as I broke my own rule of never spending less than 3 days in one place. Plan at least 4 days or more for Barcelona. It is a fabulous city! BTW, I was never robbed! I did notice someone follwing close behind me once, but I just stopped and forced them to walk on by. They then knew I was aware of them and went on.

I am heading to Mallorca next week and would like advice from the Wandering Texan. Where is a good inexpensive place to stay. What are the MUST SEES (I'll only be there 2 days) and what/where are the hidden/local gems?

I wish I could help more, but Majorca was the end of a 32 day trip and we didn't do much. We stayed at La Residencia which is a resort type place. It is in Deia which is very beautiful and serene. I think you could find some inexpensive places to stay there, but it is about an hour from the airport. We took a day trip to the point, Formentor, and I thought it was a waste of time. I wanted to take a sail around the island, but it was too windy the day we were scheduled. We were there in May and it was still fairly cool. Deia is a great place to just relax. I thought Valldemosa would be a good place to stay and explore, but we didn't go through there until we were on the way to the airport. It looked inviting and interesting and had more going on than Deia. There is a good website called All About Spain that has information on Majorca. I would spend a day in Palma and choose a day at the beach, a boat tour around the island, or maybe spend the day in Valldemosa or Deia. I hope there is someone who can help more. Have a great trip. Take care, WT

My wife, child and I visited Mallorca for 2 weeks 2 years ago. If I had to pick one place to return, it would be the town of Fornalutx (sp) above Sollier. (Walk to Sollier through the lemon groves. It was beautiful, relaxing and we felt authentic. 2nd would easily be the town of St. Elm which is a petite village on the sea. We would NOT return to Formentor as it was to remote and not worth the trouble getting there.IMHO. Mallorca is a great island once you get away from the airport and big city areas. You'll love it!!

I am going to Mallorca next week and need HELP on picking a location as far as hotels go. We will be there 2 nights. We want to be near the beach as well as the city of Palma. Where should we look for a hotel? Palma or Playa de Palma? Also, a nice un-hotel like stay is what we were aiming for. Maybe an old farm house. PLEASE ADVISE!
