Used Malev in March for a short roundtrip flight from Zurich to Budapest - about a 90 minute flight. Plane was clean, and flight attendants were pleasant. Both flights I had were in the morning, and I recall for such a brief flight that the breakfast was substantial, and that it was quite good, flight attendants passed out baskets of rolls and assorted breads (approached each passenger 2 or 3 times), but each individual tray came with deli meats, cheese, butter, preserves, yogurt, some sliced fruit and coffee or tea. Also, I was impressed with the in-flight magazine.

I've flown from NYC to Budapest twice and Budapest-Rome once. The flight was uneventful - the headphone audio for the movie went in and out but they were showing something dismal so I didn't care - plane was clean but the interior felt a bit dated - security was thorough - they were on time. I liked that they would showed a map where the plane was located while in flight and various information - altitude, temp outside airplane, minutes since departure, minutes till landing, etc. I would fly them again because it's a direct flight from NYC to Budapest.

Flew in June from Amersterdam to Budapest and back in July. I agree with the others. The plane was dated but clean. Attendants were very polite, spoke good english and yes, passed the bread basket several times. Pilots are a bit aggressive for me as they turn a little too steep for me. Highly recommend flying with them.

In 2000 we flew Malev (as a Delta codeshare) JFK to Budapest and had a very nice trip--the plane was a 767 and seemed to me to be just like the Delta ones. The attendants were very nice and the food as edible as any.

I remember being a little concerned when I realized Delta had put us on Malev, since I had never heard of them, but after checking here on Fodor's, and finding only positive comments, I didn't worry.

I agree with all of the comments. I have one thing to add; if you are flying with children, Malev is fantastic. The flight attendants are very helpful and you receive special service. Hungarians view small children as a treasure and treat them (and the mothers!) accordingly.
Have a great flight,
Jan
