Has anyone taken one of the Maid of the Forth Cruises out of Edinburgh? <BR> <BR>Looking for information on cost, number of sailings (once a day? Twice?), how long is the cruise and if booking ahead (24 hours?) is recommended? <BR> <BR>Thanks <BR> <BR>Cindy

Cindy, The Maid of the Forth leaves from my home town of South Queensferry (around 10 miles outside Edinburgh)from right underneath the historic Forth Bridge. It's not whaty I would call a cruise per se, however, it will take you to the town of North Queensferry, where there is an impressive indoor sea-life centre, then on to Inchcolm island, where there are some WWII buildings and an old abbey. The ship leaves every 2 hours or so, and you should give yourself around 90 mins on Inchcolm. You need not book in advance, tickets are usually available on the day, especially mon-fri. <BR> <BR>finally, Take a sweater ! even if you are planning the trip in summer, the forth can throw up some chilly winds <BR>

Robin <BR> <BR>Thanks for the information - we were tenatively planning a trip out to the Isle of May (from Abnstruther) which looked like a great way to spend the day; doing some bird watching as well as taking in the historic light house. When I found a reference to the "Maid of the Forth Cruises" I wondered if this might be an "easier" alternative to the Isle of May trip. (Easier from the standpoint that we are staying in Edinburgh and don't want to spend ££ on a b&b in the Anstruther area). The copy for MOTF says "Cruises from beneath the Forth Bridges to Inchcolm Island. Explore the 12th century Abbey or catch a glimpse of the sea life - dolphins, seals, cormorants and puffins." <BR> <BR>If you or anyone else has had a chance to do either of these trips and would offer your opinions I would be most grateful. <BR> <BR>Thanks again <BR> <BR>Cindy <BR>

Cindy <BR> <BR>They are just not comparable. We have corresponded on the Isle of May one which I would love to do. Inchcolm is just not in the same league.
