Madrid, South in December
I am traveling to Madrid in mid-December and wanted info on the type of weather to expect. I may also plan a trip to the south and need suggestions on places to stay and am also interested to find out if the weather would be remarkably different in the south at this time of year. Am planning on staying at the NH Nacional in Madrid and would like to know whether this is a good choice or should I look at other hotels. Sugestions for hotels in the south would be appreciated and would like to play golf weather permitting.

Madrid will probably be cold in December, it's quite high, on a plateau. I have stayed in the NH Nacional. It's a nice hotel, well placed for the Prado.

The south coast (ie down at sea level, not just in the south) will be much warmer, air temperature of about 60 - 65 but feeling warmer in the sunshine. There are very many golf courses in the south of Spain, particularly between Malaga and Gibraltar. I'd do a search for a hotel linked with a golf course.

I would recommend you request a Spain Travel Kit from www.okspain.org They will send you extremely useful and lovely literature regarding everything you need to know about Spain. In Madrid, you must visit the world famous Prado Museum. Don't let 40 degrees weather stop you from having a magnificent time. As for golfing, Costa del Sol is the place to be. And the weather should be in the 60's and sunny, when you go. Also check out these websites for lodging info, etc. www.hotelstravel.com/spain www.hotelsspain.com http://spainguides.com Have a wonderful time in beautiful Spain.

I went to Spain in December a few years ago. The temperature in Madrid was in the mid 50's. A little chilly, but with a light winter coat, bearable. Costa del Sol was not much warmer. In fact it rained a lot of the time. Our day trip to Gibraltar was a little warmer since the rain had stopped and the sun came out a little. Basically, plan on warmer clothes and enjoy the crowd-free cities!

You could find Madrid snowy or sunny, chilly or nice but generally temperatures there in December might be around 50º/35º not very humid and so fairly bearable. Cadiz is the warmest province in continental Spain, there are several good golf courses and resorts in Chiclana area or Rota area ( flying to Jerez from Madrid ). Costa del Sol also offer numerous golf courses, being the Marbella/Estepona area the most attractive ( Fly Malaga ). Temperatures in Cadiz rarely go under 50º ( 60º/50º ), a little bit cooler in Malaga ( 60º/45º ). The White Villages Route in this part of the year is gorgeous ( Ronda, Arcos, Grazalema, etc )
