Madrid, etc. itinerary

Will be flying into Madrid end of May and will rent a car. Have 14 days in Spain, committed (2) to Madrid, then would like to go to go to Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba, Ronda, Gilbralter--is there a central place to stay that would make this doable without too many hotel changes. Also want to go to Toledo, could be do that on the way to Cordoba, or just stay there one night. Was wondering whether to go the way of Granada first, or Sevilla? Also wonder if a day trip to Morocco would be worth it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Obviously have never been to Spain before and am looking forward to it.

Absolutely do not miss Toledo. Spend a night there on your way to Sevilla.

I once did a 14-day itinerary in Spain, and knowing now what I didn't know then, I would rework it thus:

2 days Madrid
1 day driving to Sevilla
4 days in Sevilla
3 days in Granada
1 day in Cordoba
1 day in Toledo
Back to Madrid and visit El Escorial and other sights outside the city before leaving.

I haven't been to Ronda, but given what I've read about, I should have included that, too.

I suggest that you rent a car when you are leaving Seville, a car is not an asset in Seville. Take the AVE from Madrid to Seville. Consider making Cordoba a day trip by train from Seville. It's less than an hour away by train. Going from Seville to Granada consider spending a night or two in Ronda. The caves outside of Ronda are interesting. I think that three nights are too many in Granada. We easily saw what we wanted to see in two nights. Consider spending a couple of days in Nerja, enjoying the sunshine and sea.

We saw most of Spain using the train. You might consider going to Toledo from Madrid on a daytrip, by bus it's only about an hour and the buses run quite frequently.

You can also take the train from Madrid to Seville, 2 1/2 hours by high speed AVE train. I'm not sure if there's anything in between the two that's worth a stop.

From Seville, you can take a day trip to Cordoba, about 1/2 hour by AVE train. We spent a night there but I don't think we needed to.

For the last part of the trip, we stayed at a hotel on the Costa del Sol and took day trips to Gibraltar and Ronda by car, to Granada and Tangier by organized bus trip.

I would highly recommend NOT going to Morocco if your only option is a day trip to Tangier. It was dirty, they herded tourist like cattle to all the same spots (photo op with a snake charmer, photo op with a camel, etc.) and it took all day, a good chunk of which was picking up people from other hotels.

I also wished we had more time in Granada. Now that you can buy tickets in advance to the Alhambra, you might be able to do a daytrip there from the Costa del Sol by car. We didn't stay in Granada so there may be a benefit to staying there overnight or for more than a day that I'm not aware of.

forget Gibralter it's nothing really & forget Morocco, a day trip is a waste and Tangiers is not the best impression to be left with of a great country. After Madrid you can go to Toledo easily & definitely spend the night... it is beautiful and marvelous to walk these streets after all the daytrippers have left.. can recommend nice place. I would then travel to Cordoba first, one day/night is enough... you basically want to see the Mosque & its INCREDIBLE. Then Sevilla 3 days/nites (As long as you have reserv in hotel w/park grg, leave your car there during your stay. If you want to see beach, then go from Sevilla towards Cadiz & to an incredible place called Bolonia (has roman ruins right on the beach & you can stay in one of the 2 or 3 small meandering hotels right there!) Stunning & MEMORABLE - depending on your time 1-2 nites. Ronda is gorgeous, but only 1 nite if you must (try not to take the coastal road but go inland, its a long trip both ways but the coastal the most dangerous in Spain (think Brits driving on the wrong side of road?!) Granada an ABSOLUTE MUST! 2 or 3 nights definitely.. and then back toward Madrid & instead stay at least 1 nite in magical Segovia, have recommend.. Lots of daytrippers again but stay the NITE (we always stay 2 or 3)!!! that's when the locals come out & don't miss walks below the town by the river - a real treat. Depending on what you like, & how you travel, there's lots of options.
