Luzern Question

My husband and I are currently staying at the Hotel Wilden Mann in Luzern for 3 nights in August. We are paying a rate of CHF 335. Does anyone know if the Hotel Wilden Mann offers specials (I've been on their site already)? I booked the rooms back in January but was hoping I could get a better rate somewhere along the line. Any discount web sites I should try?

Also, parking is CHF 25 per night. Is it possible to park our car outside of Luzern anywhere cheaper and train into Luzern? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi katzen,

Sorry, no info for the Wilden Mann.

But $25/night for parking! Cheeeeesh! Why not return your rental in Luzern? If you're just going to be leaving via Zurich, there are several direct (0 changes) trains every hour from Luzern to Zurich airport. Just return your car & save some money.

Hi swandav, unfortunately, we aren't leaving from zurich. Our plans have changed drastically since I first posted. We are picking my sister up in Zurich and heading to Freiburg. My husband is then driving to Frankfurt the next day, dropping off the car and flying home. My sister and I are continuing on to France.

We are picking the car up in Frankfurt. I would hate to rent in Germany and drop off in Switzerland. Our other stop in Switzerland are Appenzell. In Germany we will be visiting Cochem, Rothenburg, Munich, Fuessen & Meersburg. We are all over the place.

CHF 25 is a lot in my book!! That is why I was thinking there had to be somewhere cheaper to park outside of Luzern. Yikes.

Our most recent stay in Lucerne (end of March) including a place to park the car for about 10 sf per day, in the hotel parking lot (which is VERY SMALL and only allows for about 4-5 cars). We pre-arranged the parking so that we knew we'd get space. The hotel is a basic 3-star, but good location near the old city. An easy stroll to shopping and restaurants. The hotel is the NH Lucerne.

25chf seems reasonable to me - you're in the center of a midieval city. In Switzerland all of our hotels had parking lots or garages - and even in most of the smaller towns there were specific parking lots for the public. There are probably some in Lucerne outskirts if you check the town website for info - but I don't know if they would be free or not if you leave the car overnight or for several days.

Can't comment on the parking, but I can tell you the Wilden Mann is very nice. We had a corner room with a bit of a river view. The bathroom was all marble and huge. The breakfast buffet was excellent, large, lots of variety.
