Luzern or Interlaken area?
With the help of everyone here on board, our June Germany/Switzerland trip is finally taking shape. I am planning on spending 5 nights in Switzerland and spliting that between Luzern and Interlaken area. Anyone has any suggestion on how many nights in each place? We have 2 boys age 5 and 6 and wonder any activities around those 2 place will interest them? Also, should we base in Interlaken or Wengen or Grindelwald when we are in the Interlaken area?
Many thanks for all the help!

I've stayed some time in the Interlaken area. There area is simply huge and there so much to see and do. However this was during december. It was probably one of the most beautiful area's of Switzerland I've seen. I don't recommend you base in Wengen because there is no road access. I stayed in the next village down called Lauterbrunnen which has road access but is very close to Wengen. I don't recommend staying in the Interlaken city area. It is quite a distance from the mountain area (20 minutes) and isn't nearly as beautiful as staying in Lauterbrunnen or Wengen.

good evening, Baby108
Have to select Interlaken, the Berneroberland, towns of Grindelwald, Lauterbrunne, Wengen and Murren, there is quite a bit
to do with all the chair lifts, gondolas and different rail trips, Grindelwald First, Schlithorn and the mighty Jungfrau are not to be emissed....for more informatioin go into www.bergeroberland.ch/.... don't neglect both lakes thun and Brienz and the Ballenberg....Luzern on the other hand runs a very close second with the
Lake and its boats, Mtrs. Rigi, Pilatus and Titlis ... Don't miss the
Swiss Transport Museum, it has a very
large G scale layout which wil most impress the boys throughly...

Thanks guys for all the input. I took Jack31's advice and booked a nice place (Silberhorn) in Lauterbrunnen for 3 nights and will use that as our base for Grindelwald, Schlithorn (plan to go to the revolving restaurant there) and definately Jungfrau. I will do the lakes if we have enough time. We will be in Luzern for 2 nights before going to the Interlaken area and sure will visit the Traffic Museum. Any suggestion on nice restaurants in those areas? My boys will behave since they are going to Legoland at the end of the trip as a treat for being good boys

Your boys are going to think they've already been good when you take them to the Transportation Museum in Luzern. It's paradise for kids of all ages (even me at 52!).
Also go to the Glacier Garden in Luzern. When we were there, a group of school kids about 6/7 were there on a field trip. I'm not sure they absorbed a whole lot about glaciers, but they were sure having fun. There's also a 19th century hall of mirrors that was lots of fun for kids and adults.

I really need advice for 5 day trip to Switzerland in June coming from Munich by train. I've read alot about Grindewald and Jungfrau, and also the Luzern area. I need to pick one place to base for three nights, and another for two nights. Since I won't have a car, and will be with two teens, I need to stay near a bus or rail station. Would it still make sense to stay in Lauterbrunnen without a car? I would be grateful for itinerary help with suggestions on hotels, and which pass would be best for a family of 4. From there I plan to go on to Salzberg. Thank you!
