Lunch - NIN

Our upcoming Norway in a Nutshell trip (May) has us on board the ship from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. This sounds an ideal time to have lunch. Does anyone know if lunch is available, either in the form of packaged sandwiches or a buffet bar, on board ship or would we need to carry our lunch with us?

Many thanks,
BigBlue

We're considering that route, too, and were wondering that same question.

Anyone know??

I am curious---are you an IBMer or just oxygen deprived?

Bob, I went to Duke and retired from IBM so I've got two blue connections.

Cheers,

BigBlue -

I ended up making an int'l call to the Fjord Tours customer service line to ask some questions about the trip, so I asked about this as well. There is food sold on the ferry, but according to the rep, nothing "big" which sounds like it's enough for a very light lunch (i.e. sandwiches, snacks, but not a plated meal). I think we'll carry some small snacks with us anyway, in case we get hungry along the rest of the journey. The timetable also shows there's some free time once we get to Flåm before boarding the railway to Mydral (from 1:30 to 2:45), so that's a chance to eat a very late & quick lunch in Flåm.

By the way, when in May will you be going? We're planning to be there on the 12th.

We ordered a take-away box and paid for a second breakfast at our hotel so that we had a lunch to bring with us. We traveled in high season and went straight from the train to the boat on our way from Oslo to Bergen. We did buy drinks on the boat.

Globetrotter and Barbara, both good suggestions for which I thank you.

Globetrotter, we'll be traveling from Bergen and back to Bergen on May 23.

Happy traveling,
BigBlue

Yes, there are light snacks and drinks available on the ferry. There are places to eat in Flam as well as a supermarket. We had a big breakfast before we left, hot chocolate on the ferry then picked up some sandwiches and an icecream at the supermarket, walked up the hill and had our little picnic looking out at the wonderful view. You will have a great day, its breathtakingly beautiful. We were there last May and had fantastic weather.
