Luggage dimena on day trip to salisbury and stonehenge
Will be travelling with a party of 8 next June, 2012 from London on train to Salisbury, stopping there to see Stonehenge and then on to Portsmouth to catch ferry to Caen, France all in the same day. Have you any suggestions as to what we could do with our luggage after leaving the train to see Stonehenge. We will return to Salisbury and then take the train to Portsmouth to catch the ferry.

For a group that size it might be cost effective to book a large van/small bus with a driver, big enough to keep your luggage with you. Have them pick you up and deliver you right back to the station.
Google "private tour stonehenge" or maybe someone here knows of such a service and will recommend it.

Well, there are no left luggage facilities or lockers at Salisbury railway station. Not sure if there is anywhere else in town you could leave it - a brief internet search mentioned the Cat Tavern near the station as a place you could leave your stuff at, but I've no knowledge of this place at all.
Perhaps a better option, as there are 8 of you, would be to book ahead for a minibus to meet you at the station, take you out to Stonehenge for an hour (that's as long as it takes to see it) then back to Salisbury. You could leave your bags in the minibus.

I should add, as far as I know there aren't any rental agencies near the train station. The closest one is in a nearby industrial estate, not far but not that easy to find although 1 of you could take a taxi and come back. I still think that you'd be better served booking the vehicle with a driver who could meet your train.

Just to avoid any potential confusion in the language here, a "van" (US English) = a "minibus" (UK English). A van in UK English means a vehicle that a workman would use to carry his tools/goods around in: http://vans.autotrader.co.uk/
