Good morning, Jennifer
Lugano is located on the shore of a beautiful lake.
The city is large with excellant hotels and ristorantes and mostly concentrated in about an six block area by the lake. Boats ply the lake to difference places. We were in Lugano October of 96 and 97 and enjoyed very much. Went by boat to the Casino Municipale di Campione de Italia but also played at the Casino Lugano. We stayed at the hotel
LUGANO DANTE, which is located at the lower end of the funicular which starts up at the railroad station so that it made baggage handling very easy.
Down at this lower section are numberous hotels and ristorantes. It is a pleasant place for a couple of days. Here are a couple of sites to surf...
www.tourism-ticino.ch/-----www.citynet.ch/-----
www.tinet.ch/----- www.pubblinet.com/-----
206.139.242.25/about/about.html-----
www.waiviala.com.au/swiss/lugano/lugano.htm-----
www.hotel-luganodante.ch/-----www.forum.ch/----
www.hotelguide.ch/ and www.swisshotels.ch/ (hotels)
Good surfing RICHARD OF HICKORY HILLS. Hello everyone
I was very pleased to hear that the city where I live is so well considered.
I really like Lugano and would suggest to anyone a visit. We have sunshine most of the year and especially in Autumn, we were very unlucky in the last couple of years. Between the end of September and the beginning of October we have the traditional Wine Festival with a colorfull street-parade and also a misic festival with free stages all over the small squares near the lake.
If anyone need some more informations I will be very pleased to help (my email is always open to anyone...), even for a little sightseeing when you are in Lugano.
Bye for now and I hope you enjoi your visit

Antonio

Lugano is one of my alltime favorites, but it is
really akin to the Italian Lakes--not the rest of
Switzerland. If you want the best of the Alps then
there is no choice----go to Interlaken, but do not
stay there---stay in Wengen or Grindelwald and see
the real Alps up close and personal.
I have been to Lugano 3 times, and the Europeans
regard it as a most cosmopolitan city and a great
place to use as a base for excursions.
I will be staying in both Bellagio (2 nights) and Stresa (1-2 nights). Just wanted to know if there is local transportation between the 2 places, without going back through Milan. I cannot seem to find this information in books.
Thank you kindly,
Ellen
