George, Go to www.knowital.com and have a ball. The Piccolo Puccini is hard to beat, but the new La Romea B&B looks good too. You will like Lucca.

Lucca is lovely. I stayed at the Palazzo Alexander when there last year, and enjoyed it very much. Very nice decor in both the bedrooms and public areas, with helpful staff and an extensive buffet breakfast included in the rate. It is inside the walls, in a quiet location just a short walk from everything you'll want to see. www.palazzo-alexander.it

We stayed at the Albergo Diana in Lucca earlier this year. I had read on this forum that the main building often smells of cigarette smoke so we opted for the (more expensive) new annex. Nice enough, like a typical new hotel room, we prefer places with more character but it was fine. 10 min walk to the train station, about the same into the centre of town.<BR>Kay
