We stayed four nights at the Palazzo Alexander in Lucca, and if you are interested, I can look back at my notes for the cost per night...certainly nothing outrageous.
It's a small boutique hotel and all the rooms are named after Giacomo Puccini's operas. We had a room named Madame Butterfly. The square footage for the room must have been 350-400 s.f.
Great staff, and an "adequate" continental breakfast.
If you are looking for an excellent tourist map, I can recommend The Wanderer's Map of Lucca available on Amazon.com $10.
Also, I have name of fantastic, reasonably-priced restaurants in Lucca. We would certainly return to Lucca on a future trip.

kane,
Oh yeah.. We were a group of eight old friends and we all so enjoyed Lucca.
Our wall-walking was such fun on a beautiful sunny and warmish day (it was in February!).
If I remember correctly, we came down from the wall at least once to partake of a little wine, then climbed backk up to complete the circuit.
I'm trying to remember the name of the restaurant we loved..Antonio's maybe?
Anyway, we all still remember two memorable days in Lucca.

It would be very hard to beat this hotel. Super clean, marble bathrooms, great rates etc etc. I would return to this hotel.
