Louvre - cost

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows the cost of some of the tourist attractions in Paris for example, the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Eiffel Tower,
etc.
Thanks in advance.

I have not yet been to Paris, but I am heading there in Decmber. From what I have read, the Lourve is 40FF to get in, but 20FF after 3pm and Sundays. The others I'm not entirely sure, but I think it is much cheaper to go by the stairs up the Eiffel Tower, rather than the lifts.
I have found HEAPS of really good info on the Net. Please feel free to e-mail me and we can swap info.

I was in Paris this past summer, and unfortunately I can't remember the cost of admission to the Louvre, but the best thing to do is to get a Museum Card. Once you pay for the card, you get free admission to the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Arc de Triomphe (sp?), etc. You can get a one day card, or they come in multiple days as well. I think they are around $20-odd dollars, but if you plan on visiting more than one of the major Paris attractions, it is well worth it -- you'll easily make up the cost. With the card you also get to bypass the long queues, show your card, and get right in! The Eiffel Tower is worth the cost of going all the way to the top. You can go to the first level, second level, or all the way to the top. The cost for the full ticket is around 57 French francs. Spectacular views! Something that you just have to do when you go to Paris! Hope this info was helpful!

Cindy is correct. My wife and I just got back last week from Paris. The museum pass is the best bet.
We purchased 3 day passes for 140 FF. It gets you into EVERYTHING except the Effile Tower. You get past long lines and you can re-enter the museums easily. We "attacked" the Louvre in several 3-4 hours trips.

Also look into getting a tourist metro pass. Be sure to buy metro passes at least in packages of 10 (a corronet) for 48 FF instead of 8 FF individually.

Other costs were: Taxis were 220 FF CDG to center of town and 180 FF Orly to center. Food as much or little you want to spend. Always look into the full meals with several courses combined as one price instead of al la carte. You get the same food and can save some money.

If you go to www.ricksteves.com and select country by country information, then France, then Paris museum pass, you'll see a good list of the admission prices to select museums and the price of the various museum passes. I'm Paris bound this December (knock wood) and I plan to use the pass.

Thanks for all the replies.

Where can I buy this museum pass that everyone is mentioning?

ALso I read somewhere that you could go to other museums and you'd be given free passes to the Louvre. Anyone know anything about this?

At major metro stations, rail stations, and some of the museums. I got this info, along with current prices from www.francetourism.com. Select Paris, then museums. There is also a list of "free" days at some museums, and free museums. For a long list of the museums that accept the pass, you may visit www.bonjour.com. At both sites there is information concerning purchasing the pass while still in the USA.

Another site I just stumbled upon is www.intermusees.com. It provides a list and description of the museums and the mechanics of the pass (cost, where to buy, why you'd buy it).

For heaven's sake, get yourself a good tour guide. Everything you wondering about is included. All you have to do is read it. Alternatively, learn to search on www.hotbot.com.

Personally, I appreciate these questions being asked and really appreciate those people who take the time to answer them without making people feel foolish for having asked them. Thanks everyone for the terrific help.

Hi Julie; Just returned yesterday from Paris. Awesome! We bought the 5 day Museum Pass. It cost 200 FF, about $37 US. The 3 day is 140FF ,about $26 US. We bought ours at the Lourve but they're available at any of the museums. It does not cover the Eiffel Tower. I don't think you can use the stairs but you wouldn't want to. The lower level is about 42FF. All the way to the top is 57FF. Do it! By the way, the museum pass does cover the Arc de Triomphe. No elevator, just a spiral staircase. As great as the Eiffel Tower is, and it truly is, my wife and I both got tremendous rush at the top of the Arc de Triomphe. It may be cold and windy in Dec but don't miss it. You can email me direct for any other info. Enjoy!

Julie: Get yourself a copy of the Timeout Guide to Paris. The admissions for all the museums and attractions are listed as well as details on the museum pass.
