lost on the web.....
I have seen several references to Hotel Notre Dame in Bayeux on this board, but I am having trouble locating any information, including an email address(??). Does anyone out there know a website or email address that I could obtain some information? I'm planning an extremely last minute trip to the Normandy area and would like to contact several hotels/ b&b's about availability. So any other suggestions would be helpful as well!

Also, I read that there is no major car rental in Bayeux, but there are local companies. Would a reservation be necessary, or do they usually have cars in stock? I am trying to decide between getting a car and driving eight hours to get there, or taking the train and picking up a car there?

Thanks!

Can't help you with the Hôtel Notre Dame, but I can definitely recommend the Château de la Bellefontaine - lovely place right outside town (close enough to walk) and very reasonably priced at about 80 euros (this was 2 years ago) for a spacious double.

Yóu're right about no car rental companies in Bayeux other than local ones - I would take the train to Caen and pick up a car there. All th emajor companies have storefronts at the train station there. It's no more than a half-hour drive to Bayeux.

Where are you coming from that it would be an 8-hour drive to Bayeux?

There ARE three locations at Caen for Avis, so maybe that would bebetter to take the train there (though, I too, am curious about your eight hour drive - - you're not tlking about starting somewhere in the UK are you?)

Caen Airport - CFR
Carpiquet Airport, Caen, 14650, France
(33) 02 31 84 73 80
Sun Closed; Mon-Fri 08:00AM-06:00PM
08:30PM-09:30PM; Sat Closed

44 Place De La Gare - XH5
Caen, 14000, France
(33) 02 31 84 73 80
Sun Closed; Mon-Fri 08:00AM-07:00PM; Sat 09:00AM-12:00PM
02:00PM-06:00PM

Railway Station Gare SNCF - CY7
Caen, 14039, France
(33) 02 31 83 87 77
Sun Closed; Mon-Fri 08:00AM-07:00PM; Sat Closed

Best wishes,

Rex
I just returned from Bayeux. I also haven't heard of hotel Notre Dame. WE stayed in a very nice 2 star hotel in Bayeux which is an older home converted into a wonderfull hotel by the name of Hotel d'Argonnes. It's located downtown,is extremely quiet and clean with helpfull desk Personell.
I also would suggest taking a train to Caen and renting a car there. We made reservations from the states, as it was cheaper, with Eurocar and were very satisfied.
For more info. on Normandy trywww.Normandy-Tourism.org
www.Normandywebguide.com

Here is the Bayeux hotel page from GAF, one of the best comprehensive sources of hotel info for France.

http://www.gaf.tm.fr/en/france/lodgi...dos/bayeux.php

It lists phone nos and address for that hotel, but nothing else. That is only a 1-star hotel, apparently, and those level of hotels rarely have web sites or email reservations.

According to the phonebook, there is a Hertz in Bayeux at a Shell Station (but no Avis). It is listed on the Hertz website, also www.hertz.fr

Here is the info given on that location from that URL:

Adresse: Station Shell - Boulevard du 6 Juin
14400
Ville: Bayeux
Pays: France
Téléphone: 02 31922533
Alt. Autre numéro:
Fax: 02 31228827
Horaires d'ouverture: Mon-Sat 0700-2000 Sun 0800-2100
