lost credit cards

My son just finished college and went to Europe for 5 weeks. On his third day in Europe and the first day in Paris, he was pick-pocketed. He called me to ask me to cancel all his credit cards and ATM card. He kept his passport and airline tickets in different places so they are safe. His buddy can loan him some money but I don't think they can do that for the rest of their trip. What is the best way of replacing lost credit cards? Since my son will be staying mostly in hostels, he does not have any reservations. I know people get pick-pocketed while visiting foreign countries, but I wonder how they manage to get money and complete their trips. Any suggestions or ideas?

Most credit card companies will deliver a new card within 48 hours. As long as he'll be in Paris that length of time, I can't see a problem.

He should be able to pick it up at a bank, if its within the network of the card, i.e., pick up a Citibank card in a Star Network bank, etc.

Many people when they are always on the go and travel to different cities have their mail forward to the American Express. You can call and find out your son itinerary, also call the company and find out.

Why didn't you ask the card companies at the time you cancelled the cards? For that matter, why didn't they ask you how you wanted to handle replacements. It's called customer service.

Please query the individual card sources. Major cities in Europe all have card offices or arrangements with local banks. Curiousity? How many cards was he carrying? Why more than one? You should be able to arrange a replacement card from AX and pick-up at a Paris office.
