Looking for suggestion for next trip

Two well-traveled ladies are looking for suggestions on where to go next. We thoroughtly enjoyed Santorini, Venice, Antibes, and Paris. We enjoy visual delights, small towns (as opposed to large cities) with opportunities to browse shops, eat at small, charming restaurants (not gourmet, just charming), stay in small inns, and basically get absorbed in the local color. Although we enjoy the history Europe has to offer, it's not the major reason we travel. We generally travel in May, June, or September. Any thoughts?

Ireland and Scotland immediately come to mind.

Provence is fabulous any time of year, loaded with just the kind of things you enjoy, and especially wonderful in May and September. That's my choice - with Tuscany, south of Siena, a close second.

What about Croatia? This country sounds perfect for you according to your wish list. It has more than 1000 islands, many beautiful Mediterranean towns, excellent cozy restaurants and nature is spectacular.
You can stay in many privately (family) owned inns, meet the locals and enjoy laid back atmosphere.
If you want to learn something more go to official Croatian tourist page:
http://www.htz.hr/
I would suggest Southern Germany and Austria. Rent a car, skip the big cities and enjoy the many beautiful small towns and friendly people along the way.
