Looking for new destination in Northern Italy
My husband and I have not seen any northern Italian towns (north of Verona). Most likely we will be traveling in January. I would love to hear about your favorite large or small towns in the Piedmont, Lombardy or Veneto.

There's got to be a zillion places to visit in those 3 regions. Anyway, if you're staying in Verona (a great city), think about visiting Bassano del Grappa and/or Asiago. We had a really good time there. We happened upon the place when there was a reunion of the Italian Army Alpine Corp and there were lots of older Italian men strolling around with knee socks and hats with a feather. Bassano has an old wooden bridge between the 2 sides of town that is a focal point.

I was looking at images of some cities like Aosta and it's amazing how different the architecture is. Any other favorite cities? We've been to Verona before so I'm not sure if we'll be going there again.
We're just in the discussion stages so we're up to any thing at this point.

Three good answers given above already: Bassano del Grappo (which I _have_ visited - - splendid), Torino and Aosta (both on my radar screen for this fall). Check out also the Astesana Stradadelvino also.

These are further north and I'm not sure if the weather will work against you in January but Bolzano and the Dolomites were wonderful. (We were there in August.) And on the way is Trento. Beautiful frescoed buildings surrounding the main piazza, and a fascinating castle, Castello del Buonconsiglio. The grappa San Michele in the gift shop was amazing!

We just had lunch in Treviso (the birthplace of tiramisu!) wandered around the countryside, saw some Palladian villas and stayed overnight in Vicenza. I liked Vicenza quite a bit. The Teatro Olympica was fascinating. The finest Palladian villa, La Rotunda, is just on the edge of the city. We had an excellent dinner in Vicenza as well. It's well worth a short visit.

What a beautiful image. We stopped in Bassano and walked across the bridge and sat in a little bar on one end and had a glass of wine. It is very beautiful, but I wonder how much there is to do after you shop for an afternoon, and drink some grappa?
