Looking for good Tapas place as well as bars in Barcelona

Greetings fellow fodorites! I'm off to Barcelona next Thursday with my Mom and we are planning to meet a bunch of other travelers who will be on our cruise. We are planning to meet for drinks near the Liceu metro (Boqueria) so am asking for bar suggestions for drinks and Tapas.

Thanks in advance!!

Monica

Liceu is on the Rambles which is very busy and touristy. Head over to the Passig de Gracia, Barcelona's most attractive boulevard. There are many tapas places along the way, so stop at any that appeal to you. Keep in mind that tapas time starts late in Barcelona, around 9pm and people generally hop from place to place. The food everywhere is great. Enjoy!

I've actually had tapas at lunchtime in Barcelona so it isn't necessarily a nightime only thing...I agree with the above, though..just ramble along and you'll find someplace appealing

Thanks Duke. Are they located in the gothic quarter or elsewhere?

I was just there last month and had amazing tapas and wine at a Galician-style tapas bar in the barri gotic. I'm sorry that I cannot remember the name, but it is one of the restaurants in the Barcelona lonely planet guide.

My biggest piece of advice is do not eat on Las Ramblas. You're paying for location, not quality of food. I've eaten tapas thorughout Andalucia, Valencia and Catalunia, and found Ramblas tapas bars to be the most lacking in quality.

I'll definitely stay away from Las Ramblas for tapas. I was there in 1994 and 1996 and remember the expensive drinks at the outdoor cafes.

Maybe we'll find the one you dined in Riffic! Our hotel is in the heart of the Barri Gotic.
