London>Edinburgh Train Booking - Question on 1st class tickets
Apparently, I'm just not comprending how to use the trainline.com site. I'm booking for 3 other people who want to travel first class and I can't seem to figure out how to book it. A small icon comes up that says upgrade to 1st class and appears as if you can click on it but nothing happens. They're adamant about traveling 1st class. Can anyone offer me advice on the easiest/best way to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Please note, week-end first is the same as first class, but with no additional service benefits. Make sure you book full first class service for in seat dining options and complimentary hot and cold beverages as well as newspapers.
Week-end First has the same people as standard class, there are no real benefits. Make sure you book full service.

Most unusual - free drinks served in your seats?
This is business first which is available (usually) in only one of the First class coaches at the week-end.
Full First is the only first available on weekdays.

I just went to thetrainline.com. That button with the first class upgrade is only active for fares and journeys that are highlighted in yellow in the table below, if any. If you want to buy a normal first class ticket simply click on the FIRST OPEN SINGLE or RETURN button in the fare table. £133.50 one way - wow!!!

Hi.
Whatever effort you put in to scoring those first class seats will be well worth it. Last fall I took that train in second class and I was quite surprised at how cramped, uncomfortable and dirty our seats were.
Having used a Eurail Pass years ago, I was accustomed to first class but I hadn't realized how inferior second was. It was actually worse than riding coach in an airplane.

Standard - not 2nd in the UK - is marginally less comfortable than First, - it's the people that make the difference really. As for Club Europe and Eurotraveller, the only difference besides slightly wider seats, and more edible food is once again the people.
Unless we're talking flat beds, you pay to be in a more "exclusive" environment.
