I know this has been discussed many times here before, but as usual, I cannot get the text search to function. What do you suggest for transporation passes in London? I am considering the Zone 1&2 bus/tube pass that is available for sale only in the US for $33 for 7 days. I also recall suggestions of a pass available in London that covering the same area that required a passport sized photo. I cannot recall the exact area covered and the price. If I purchase the pass available here I need to do it today to ensure delivery in time for our trip. Your quick advice is appreciated!

If this helps - a daily zone 1-2 pass costs GBP 4, which is approx USD 6, making the offer you have a good deal. It will get you most places you want to go, with exception of from Heathrow (zone 6) - but I would recommend Heathrow Express for that journey.

The London Travel Card for seven days usage in zones 1 and 2 costs $27.25 when purchased in London. It requires two passport sized photos (not necessarily passport photos; you can cut a snapshot photo into passport size and that will suffice.) The pass is good any time of the day for the underground, buses, including night buses. It's a better bargain than the daily passes, good only after 9:30 and for those intending frequent usage of the public transport system. No need to buy it here; it's available at any tube station in London.

The 7 day pass for zones 1 & 2 that requires a photo is 18.90 GBP or about $27.00 US. It is good before 9 AM and also for the night buses while some of the visitor passes are not. We took our own snapshots and the ticket agent trimmed them to the appropriate size for us.

NEWSFLASH: The Visitor's Card no longer has to be purchased in the US. You also can get it at Heathrow, and ONLY at Heathrow--those flying into other airports are out of luck. It took me quite a while to unravel this, as it's so new most of the folks at the British Tourist Authority are not aware of it yet, but I have confirmed that you can purchase a Visitor's Travelcard at the Heathrow Travel Information Center next to the tube stop at Heathrow. No photo required, and the cost is £18 instead of $33 plus handling/overnight shipping fees here in the US. I'll be at Heathrow this Friday and if anything goes wrong will report back to this board. Otherwise, unless you're flying into some other airport, this works out to a MUCH cheaper way to go.

Thank you so much for your quick replies. It sounds as if the 7 day London Travel Card purchased in London is the way to go for us. I can save the Fed Ex charge and not have to worry about whether or not it will arrive on time. We are not flying into Heathrow so purchase there is not an option. Thanks again.
