London theatre ticket websites

Has anyone ordered tickets from http://www.londonwestendtheatretickets.com?

Or have you heard anything bad about them?

We're going to London in October for our honeymoon and we really want to see Spamalot at the Palace Theatre. Since I have positive experiences with discount ticket brokers in California, I decided to go with a discount ticket broker for Spamalot as well. I found www.Londonwestendtheatretickets.com online from a search on Yahoo. I already bought tickets from them, but now I'm wondering if I should have waited and did more research and not acted so quickly. They say on their website that they are not part of STAR, but I hope this does not mean that tickets I bought from them will not be honored at the theatre.

Any thoughts?

I don't know anything about the site you used. IMO, the place to begin looking is always www.officallondontheatre.co.uk.

Oops! I made a typo in the URL I gave you. It should be www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk.

never heard of them - but that doesn't mean much one way or the other. How much did you pay and where are your seats??

There really aren't any "discount" tickets to Spamalot since it is a virtual sell out most nights. I bought mine directly from the theatre for normal face value. If your tickets are "discounted" I'd be worried they might be obstructed view.

For future reference - if a show is a blockbuster hit there usually won't be discounts, and if its not a mega hit you can use TKTS to get 1/2 prices seats just about any time. Really no reason to use a ticket broker.

Thanks TimS and janisj!

Odd... when I booked on that site earlier, I went through a link at the bottom of the webpage for Discount Theatre Tickets. It was advertised as 20 GBP per person, plus processing charges. My booking confirmation email shows I was charged 65.70 GBP total for 2 people, so that sounds right. They gave me seat numbers E34 and E35 in UC/Grand. I'm not quite sure what UC means. I'm assuming Grand means Grand Circle. I just tried to go back to the same webpage and go through the motions again to see what I'd get and the price I got the tickets for are no longer available. They are now listed as 51.50 GBP per person for UC/Grand plus processing fees. I don't know what to think anymore. I'm either extremely lucky or a sucker.

UC is the Upper Circle (2nd balcony).

The regular box office price for those seats is £20. So buying them at the theatre would cost you £20 per ticket w/o any other fees.

I guess that would make me a "sucker". I just looked on the seating chart and we are sort of back there. We'll just need to remember to bring our glasses. I hope it's not an obstructed view.

No - those seats aren't obstructed. But in the Upper Circle, the folks in the front few rows almost always lean over to see what's going on at the front of the stage - and that will obstruct your View. But no pillars or anything.

Not too expensive a lesson, but the best way to buy advance tickets in London is by calling the theatre direct. They will sell you the best seats available and often with NO service or processing charge, although more recently they are starting to add a 1 to 2 pound service charge. They hold the tickets right at the box office for you and you can charge them over the phone.

So it sounds like you paid about $45 to $50 (US) above what the tickets should have cost you if you had called the theatre direct.

I think part of my mistake is I chose Overseas Post for my tickets to be delivered rather than just choosing to pick up the tickets at the box office. I think that cost alone makes up about 75% of the extra charge. Lesson learned!

Thanks to all who responded with info!

Spamalot TKTS (SanFrancisco.BroadwayWorld.com)Broadway, Tours. Off-Bway, London .... I see that Spamalot is at the TKTS booth according to tkts.com. Has anyone passed by and saw it up? ...
sanfrancisco.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.cfm?thread=901589

tkts.com i believe is the same at TimS's web site he gave? It's also the discount ticket booth - the 'official' discount ticket booth in Leicester Square, lower end i believe

But someone says they have Spamalot

You can click the TKTS link from officiallondontheatre.com and see what they have available at half price on any given today. Today in London they do (did) have half price tickets to Spamalot -- yes. That's a total of 30 pounds each including the 2.50 service charge.

Yes, that is at the TKTS booth, the free standing building in Leicester Square.

I just got tickets for Billy Elliot thru the Original London Sightseeing Tour site. Row R seats 17-18 in the "stalls"...love that word for what we call the orchestra. Sure looks pretty centre to me. They were discounted 10 pounds each, 49.5, rather than 59.5. I think I did okay!

The official TKTS booth is connected with the Official London Theatre site I gave, but the URL is www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/tkts.

Spamalot is listed under "What's on sale today." It shows a theatre price of £55 and a TKTS price of £30.

Soemthing is wrong with the offical London site..when I click on my link, Tim's or Patrick's it shows Wednesday 12th TKTS sales.

I use that site at least once a week and have never had problem with it before they changed their format.

jody, what ARE you seeing? I used your link which took me to where I was and there it is -- Monty Python's Spamalot. Theatre price 55 pounds, TKTS price 30 pounds.

Are you looking for "Spamalot" and not seeing "Monty Python's Spamalot"????

Duh. A light bulb just went off. I get it Jody. Today is Thursday, the 13th, but the TKTS site on official london theatre says Wednesday, the 12th. Beats me. I've never seen that before either, but they do have some computer problems there.

But in any case, every time I've checked recently, I've seen Spamalot for half price at the London TKTS booth.
