Diane,
Likes and dislikes can be pretty personal, we like musicals (and dramas and comedies too!) and enjoyed "Chicago" very much when we were in London this spring. I actually did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did, so you never know! I know people will run down musicals as being light weight entertainment, but if you enjoy them that's all that matters. If you have not seen the "biggies" of musicals, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, or Miss Saigon I recommend seeing them - they are very very enjoyable, we've seen each of them several times, in London and in Los Angeles and always enjoyed them. Mama Mia is also good, particularly if you enjoy Abba music. Unfortunately Lion King won't open in London till Oct. so that's out, but depending upon your age and music tastes "Buddy" (Buddy Holly) is also alot of fun. I think both Oklahoma and West Side Story are still playing - again that depends on likes and dislikes, I would not want to see them again! Whatever you decide on I am sure you will enjoy it - and don't worry about dressing up too much for the theater either, it's not really necessary.

My wife and I went to BLOOD BROTHERS in 1990 - without knowing much about it. It was terrific. No fantastic effects but great music and a lot of emotion. We're going back to London at the end of September and will be sure to see the current production. BLOOD BROTHERS was written by Willy Russel - probably better known for SHIRLEY VALENTINE - and has been a hit for more than 10 years!

(The US/Canadian production which I saw in Toronto was good but not up to London's original.)

I concur on Blood Brothers. We saw the London production with another couple in April, 1990 and all four of us thought it was a great play. We saw the US production in San Francisco a few years later and enjoyed it again. I did not know it was still on in London. The night we were there it was a packed theatre.
