London theater
When is the best time to get tickets for a June trip???

Also, I remember 30 years ago attending a play by the Royal Shakespear (sp?) Company. I think it was in Strattford. Would that be right??? I would like to make sure we go again but I don't know for sure the name of the theater.

Thanks!

The Royal Shakespeare Company has two branches. One plays at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Strarford-Upon-Avon in Warwickshire. The other comapny is at the Barbican in the center of London. They have a website with both schedules and their shows are also listed on most UK Theatre websites.

Usually no need to book tickets before you get to the UK.

Depends on the show. Top shows will be sold out weeks in advance. There are several ways to purchase tickets...personally I use ticketmaster and have always been able to get great seats (pick the tickets up at the box office).

If you are going to be there in June get tickets to see at least one show at the Globe Theater. Doesn't matter what - it will be good.

jpm

Much depends on which London shows you plan to see. We were in London in May and decided to see LeMiserables. We walked up to the theater box office 45 minutes before the evening show and purchased 2 tickets for 1/2 price and sat in the 5th row from the front the same evening. We are senior citizens and might have gotten a Senior rate but I am not certain of that. We paid about $45.00 total for both tickets.
We emailed the Globe theater in London and theater box office phones us the next day for credit card info which we furnished them via the phone call. We received the tickets within the next 5 days. Globe website gives you views of what you will see from whatever price range you select. They show only Shakespeare productions. We paid no ticketmaster surcharges.
Actually we did the same thing for a NYC broadway play. We called the theater directly and paid no ticketmaster charges. Tickets were mailed to us within 3 days.
In other words, you can wait until the same day for long, running plays but I suggest you use website for Shakespeare plays.
Have fun.

If you want to see a certain show, I would book in advance. We saw Mamma Mia there a few years ago and it was so popular (still is I think) that tickets were required well in advance. I am going in February and wanted to see South Pacific and it was already sold out for the date we wanted, so had to have the concierge of our hotel arrange them through a broker. If you don't care what you see then the 1/2 price booth at Leicester Square (day of the show) is great.
