Define "reasonable". It is meaningless on its own.
When I could handle stairs I stayed here: https://ridgemounthotel.co.uk/
This is a bit more expensive but almost next door: ? AROSFA HOTEL 3? ? LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM ? UPDATED RATES
Last trip, when I needed an elevator, I stayed here: https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hot...t-pancras.html
When universities are on break I stay at one of these (usually on Drury Lane): https://www.lsevacations.co.uk/home.aspx
I think all of those are "reasonable", but you may not. Plus I don't choose London hotels for atmosphere.
Anywhere near a tube station within the Circle line is likely to be fine when it comes to location, although I have a preference for Bloomsbury and I want the tube station on the Piccadilly line for easy access to Heathrow - although now I should check out the Elizabeth line..

Welcome, daniel. Here's where I stayed in London in 2014:
Strand Palace Hotel
372 Strand, London WC2R 0JJ
Well before covid so others with more recent info can confirm.
If you are interested, my TR (trip report):

We’ve always been happy with Baileys in South Kensington. Across the street from the Gloucester Road tube, with three lines including the Piccadilly.

I rather consider it my happiness triangle ~ the hotel, the tube station and my favorite pub The Stanhope Arms.

Welcome to Fodors. OK -- Give us your nightly budget -- An actual number - preferably in £ but your own currency is ok too and we can figure it out. Then we can help - or tell you that your expectations aren't realistic. What is 'reasonable' in Peoria may not be doable in London
How long are you staying? If more than a few nights, maybe look at flats instead.

To give an idea -- the Hoxton mentioned above -- what they call a 'Shoebox' - i.e. teeny tiny room, runs over £200 per most nights in late Jan/early Feb -- do you consider that reasonable? What they call Roomy - 225 sq ft is £250-£275 over the same period. Those are decent rates for London BTW
You will find rates are very date dependent - one night might be say £215 and the next night £270 for the same room.

Oh - I agree the Ridgemont is a great budget option. I guess my real point was recommending hotels from prior visits -- its a good idea to look at current rates (I personally wouldn't pay £200 for a 'Shoebox' - sometimes called a broom closet

@janisj - I was just pointing out that there are differing opinions as to what is a "decent" rate for London. Which is, as we have all pointed out, why the OP needs to be specific.
At somewhat higher price, but not as high, I have considered staying here: https://www.motel-one.com/en/hotels/...on-tower-hill/ Not so keen on the location, but I have stayed at Motel Ones in other countries and been pleased.
