Thank you, Janisj. Do the Senior Railcards apply when purchasing Travelcards?

We've used East Coast trains for travel between Edinburgh and London. I guess what I am confused about is whether or not East Coast is part of National Rail. Is Kings Cross station a National Rail station where we can buy paper Travelcards? Are 2 for 1 passes included automatically on the 7-day Travelcards as vouchers for when you visit a 2 for 1, or how does that work?

There are several train operators. East Coast Trains is one of them. National Rail is just an association of the various train companies and is sort of a one-stop place to find fares etc. There are no "National Rail" trains.

Yes.

It's simple: e-Mc2+4.5-234.295% of $4.984 / fc2.78 = ?

Hopefully, the above formula helped you all decide between an Oystercard, a Travelcard, or one for a certain number of days and another for a certain number of days, plus topping one off for the trip to Heathrow, divided by the number of days spent in London to the power of the number of days traveling outside London, minus your age to the power of 135.

So if i got it right you can load the oyster card with a 7 day travelcard 1-2 zones and the amount of money that you can see in your oyster will be 31 pounds?? And with every ride with the tube or bus that amount will decrease or it will stay untill the 7 days time pass??

A 7 day travelcard will allow you unlimited travel in the zones you specify, usually 1-2, and buses in all 6 zones, for the flat rate of £31.40. You can add pay as you go money for travel outside of the zones you paid for, or to cover travel after the travelcard expires.

Yes. It doesn't matter if it's paper or on plastic, the travelcards work the same - unlimited travel for the 7 days.

Yes -- In the zones covered by the travel card/Oyster. If you travel outside those zones you need additional Pay As You Go money on an Oyster.

For most visitors a zones 1-2 travel card/Oyster is most useful/cost effective with some additional PAYG for places like Hampton Court Palace and/or Heathrow if needed.

This is by far the most helpful info on this yet but I was hoping for some advice for my upcoming trip to London.
I will be there for 3 days total (2 nights). My bf and I arrive at Heathrow and are staying at a flat in Zone 4. We will be traveling often to the main tourist attractions in zones 1 and 2. Which option would be the best for us? Thanks!

kik31: >>are staying at a flat in Zone 4. <<

Just where is that flat? zone 4 can be a looooong way out. If you have 2 night you won't have 3 days . . . assuming you land at LHR in the morning and have to get to your flat in zone 4 - you'll be lucky to have even a few hours free in central London that day. Then you'll have the next day. And leave the 3rd day so you'll have 1 full day and a bit more. And if the flat is inconvenient to LHR you'll have even less free time.

(In general 2 nights = 1 full day, 3 nights = 2 full days, etc.)

In any case what you'll need is either some Pay As You Go on Oysters - or - an Oyster an a one day paper travel card for each of you to get the 2for1 discounts. Probably no need for more than the single travel cards because you only have one full day in London.

The flat is near the Hanger Lane tube station (Central Line) and Alperton station (Piccadilly). We arrive at 10am on Thursday and leave Saturday night so I figured we have most of Thursday, all of Friday and half of Saturday.
Can I buy everything I need once I get to LHR? Or do I need to order ahead of time? Also, will the oyster or travelcard be good to get us to and from LHR for our flights? Thanks!

>>We arrive at 10am on Thursday and leave Saturday night so I figured we have most of Thursday, all of Friday and half of Saturday<<

OK - Hangar Lane - you have to take the tube to Acton Town and change. The journey takes about an hour plus however long it takes to walk to the flat. W/ a 10AM arrival and after the formalities, you might get to the flat by 1PM, later is definitely possible. Then check in, get settled and get back on the tube into central London -- another 30+ minute journey . . . If things run smoothly you will be in central London between 2 and 3 PM. So about 2 hours before most sites close to visitors.

And your Saturday will be complicated - where are you leaving your luggage after checking out of the flat in the morning? At LHR? Or will you take it into town and leave it at a train station?

If you go to LHR, drop your bags at Left Luggage and then head into the city - you might get there by 10 or 11 AM and then have to leave back to LHR about 6PM (an hour on the tube, queuing for Left Luggage, and however much time your airline requires for advance check in)

If you leave your bags at a train station, you have to go to that station, get the bags and then tube to the airport.

We will have our luggage with us (only a backpack each).
Would you still recommend the travelcard and an oyster card?

The Travelcard is valid in all zones when you take the bus. All other travel must be in the zones you pay for, in your case, 1-3.
