London Marriotts for Tourist

Hi, I'll be spending the first week of my honeymoon (in August) in London, courtesy of my Marriott points. I've never been there, so I don't know which neighborhood to stay in, or whether a particular hotel is good/bad. I would GREATLY appreciate any feedback/advice/experiences people have had. Here are my choices:
London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch >>
London Marriott Hotel Regents Park >>
London Marriott Hotel Kensington >>
Marriott London West India Quay >>
The Grosvenor House >>
Renaissance London Chancery Court Hotel >>
Thank you!!! Peter

Of these I think Chancery Court gets the most consistently positive reviews. I would do a search on the Marriot board at flyertalk.com as there are lots of discussions on the London properties.

It looks like you're sticking with Cat 6 properties (I'm assuming because of the number of points). I'll throw in another option which is 47 Park Street. It's a Marriott timeshare for which you can also redeem points at a rate close to or slightly lower than Cat 6 hotels. The website for the property is http://www.grandresidenceclub.com/en...on/default.asp - we stayed there last December and absolutely loved it. Great location in Mayfair and excellent, personalized service. It's a bit more difficult to redeem though. I had to book the Chancery Court as a backup and call back a few times until they finally had an opening, then switch.

if those are your choices I'd select either the Grosvenor or Chancery Court. The Grosvenor House is a large, world famous hotel on Park Lane and the Chancery Court is close to the British Museum and Covent Garden.

the others are either farther out or not as nice.

(If you can manage Marriott County Hall, that would be my first choice)

Here's my opinion on your Marriott options:

Marble Arch ? no, needs a redo pretty badly.

Kensington ? a nice location if you want to see the V&A, the Natural History Museum or shop at Harrods and surrounding area. It is on a bus line so is convenient to all of the above, you can walk to the Natural History Museum or the V&A. They have an indoor pool which is nice. The rooms are very small, so beware of this, and I don't believe there are any queen or king beds at all. May not be ideal for a honeymoon. . . .

Regents Park ? have not been in the rooms, location is a little bit inconvenient, IMO, but not a bad choice.

Canary Wharf/West India Quay - I don't think the hotel is open yet, are they actually taking bookings? I would be a little wary of staying in a hotel which just opened, as the staff is still getting used to the place, and you may not find service levels everything you could want. Also, there is a chance that some facilities might not be finished, like the health club. I would put this at the bottom of the list due to this factor plus its location is not great for tourists.

Grosvenor House - I would actually say to wait a year until they have finished redoing all the rooms. The hotel needs a lot of work, many of the rooms are pretty run down. However, if they can guarantee you a room which has been redone, this would be a good choice.

Chancery Court - beautiful hotel, large rooms, good spa and a good restaurant. The area is a bit quiet at night, no restaurants in the area, but the tube is not far away, and Convent Garden is a short walk away. All in all, a very good choice.

I have to add the following to your consideration:

County Hall ? agree with the above poster that for a tourist, it is a good location, close to Westminster, can walk to the London Eye. Great views of the river and the Houses of Parliament. Beautifully redone building.

47 Park Street - agree with the above poster you may want to look into this, rooms are 1 or 2 bedrooms and a quite beautifully finished.

Park Lane - great location at the corner of Park Lane and Oxford Street, and overlooking Hyde Park. Right above a subway line and at the stop for several major bus lines. Great shopping on Oxford Street. Nice indoor pool. Some rooms are small, so ask around for the biggest room. If you can use points to get a large room or junior suite with a park view, this would be a great choice.

My choices would be in a tie for first due to location and facilities: Park Lane, County Hall or Chancery Court.

Forget all of them and go to the County Hall and ask for a room that overlooks the Thames.

Hi, ended up at the Rennaiscance Chancery Court, after much research. (It's a level 6 hotel for Marriott Points people). Sounds like it should be good! Thanks for people's help.

Great choice! Tell them it is your honeymoon and they may upgrade you.

They have a wonderful spa, if you are interested in treatments contact the hotel for a list of services and try to make a reservation before you arrive (a month or so is not too early), as they can get booked up. A massage after a long day of walking London streets is a great way to relax before dinner. . . .
