London - July 2023 - with 2.5 Yr kid

Dear All,

Greetings from Goa....!!!
Fodors forum is one platform where i have always got the most useful suggestions for all our past trips and here i write again to seek help on a forthcoming trip that we are planning....
Well, me and my wife, along with our 2.5 yr old daughter (will be 2.5 in June) are planning a 9 night trip to London in June 2023. The nights do not include Day of arrival and departure. We have in the past travelled to many European countries but as a couple and not after our daughter was born.
Im am seeking suggestions on the following please and request help on the same....

1. From what i read, June seems to be a good month to travel. Hope thats good....
2. I hear that about 5 to 6 days should be good to cover all the main sights. Seeking suggestions on what can we do for balance 3 days...Do we do Day trips from London to Bath/ Cotsworld/ any other place OR do we shift to some other place....? We love sightseeing, culture, food, exploring old towns etc...
3. What are the kids activities that we can do in London...Since there are no places like Disneyland, Universal Studios etc....Any suggestions for 2-3 year old kids...I checked and saw options like Harry Potter activities..but that will be big for her

Thank you in advance and looking forward to your valuable suggestions....Thanks

I've usually had good luck with the weather in the UK in June, but it is the North Atlantic -- good luck!

The first thing that came to mind was the London Zoo, in Regent's Park. There are also a number of playgrounds throughout the city. The kids need to let off steam, so I would advise making frequent stops at them. Google for locations and features. I often see kids in strollers in museums, but they seldom seem to be enjoying themselves for long, even in Natural History collections, but I guess each is different. Maybe a boat ride on the Thames?

For a 2,5 year old you only need playgrounds, parks, outdoor space. I lived in London when my kids were toddlers. Since many museums are free, it is easy to just stroll through a place like the Natural History Museum, and leave when she gets bored. A boat ride and visit to Greenwich could be fun, including a visit to Mudchute farm.
I wouldn't do daytrips too far away; a trip to Bath would mean sitting on a train or bus for hours. You could split your trip into 2, with a few nights in a country house hotel with pool and other activities.

June is great -- Though just about any month can also be great. The weather could be anything -- warm, cool, sunny, wet - sometimes on the same day

"2. I hear that about 5 to 6 days should be good to cover all the main sights. 5 or 6 days is enough to cover SOME of the main sites/sights. With a toddler along you won't be moving all that fast - but even without a child along one couldn't see ALL the main sites / sights in 50 days let alone 5 days. Don't worry, I'm not suggesting you stay two months

I would NOT plan any out of town commercial/bus tours - first of all many wouldn't allow a 2 year old. In any case it would be a mistake because there are no stops to allow for a toddler's needs. The suggestion of LegoLand above is good -- it is in Windsor which is a short train ride from central London - and you can also visit the castle so it would be a very full day.

3. What are the kids activities that we can do in London...Since there are no places like Disneyland, Universal Studios etc....Any suggestions for 2-3 year old kids...I checked and saw options like Harry Potter activities..but that will be big for her

• The Princes Diana Playground at Kensington Palace -- really terrific for little ones.

• Maybe the London zoo in Regent's park -- plus other activities in the park

• Watch the horses riding on Rotten Row in Hyde Park (next to Kensington Gardens) plus a paddle boat in the Serpentine lake (there are paddle boats in Regent Park too)

• The London Transport Museum in Covent Garden plus watching the buskers and street performers in the plaza.

• The Natural History Museum -- dinosaurs, and lots of exhibits for every age.

• Visit Hamley's toy store in Regent Street --

• Many of the museums (British, V&A, Natural History, etc) have paper and on-line guides for family visits

I thought about Peppa Pig (didn't know about Digger World) --- but getting there without a car is a slog. The nearest train stations are 10 miles away. Other than a train plus taxi, they'd have to take a nearly 2 hour bus ride from Victoria Coach Station. Not really practical with a 2yo.
