London INDULGENCE.

Hey all. So I'm meeting my college-aged daughter in London December 22 or so. It's our first time there and she only has 7 days. She's leaving London the 29th to get home in time for New Year's ever.

And I really want to do something NICE for her.

For now I'm thinking maybe 3 days in London - and 2 in Ireland and 2 in Scotland - something like that. We found some awesome castles to stay in in Scotland and in Ireland. But as far as where to stay in London - no idea at all. I'm thinking $500 a night or more if need be. I'm hoping we can find a hotel that decorates big time for Christmas - but it's not crucial. It will be our first time away from home during the holidays.

Please tell me your ideas - She's 18 and it take a LOT to impress her. We'll probably taxi everywhere we go so no worries about being close to metros. And she'll definitely want to shop.

Thank you VERY much for your help.
I don't have the first clue about where to stay in London.

Yes I have as well as at the Soho, Charlotte Street and Knightsbridge. I highly recommend any of the Firmdale properties. Hotels are beautifully done.

A chance to recommend my favorite hotel, The Rensissance Chancey Court, which should have beautiful holiday decorations.

Also, check on holiday packages at Claridge's which might come in near your budget but may exceed it. It's in the heart of West End shopping and is a London classic.

Another to investigate would be the Mandarin Oriental with a beautiful dining room overlooking Hyde Park and walking distance to all the Knightsbridge shops.

Have focused on these as they will undoubtedly put on excellent Christmas dinners, most but not all restaurants will be closed Christmas Day. Brown's Hotel used to have a great holiday atmosphere but
I've not been there in recent years and have heard mixed comments on the extensive refurbs.

In all cases inquire about holiday special rates and packages.
