Hello all,
I recently get a chance to go London for 5 days in mid Feb. I have never been to London before and I was wondering what the weather is like in London in the winter, especially in Feb. is it a good idea to visit visit london during feb and would it be too cold/snowy/rainy? what can i do in london at this time of the year? I am very much a history person and would love to visit Cambridge and Edinburgh while on a visit to london. Would the weather situation be a barrier? Would love to hear some of your advice since i know nothing about london. Thank you very much all in advance...

It will be chilly (probably not real cold) and often rainy. Real cold and snow are quite rare - but certainly possible.

Scotland is even more likely to be cold and snowy.

In 5 days you can;t see London, Cambridge and edinburgh - I would think even London is a challenge.

The weather is a barrier only if you let it be. If you are used to a real winter there is nothing here to worry about - just wear proper clothing and see the gazillion sights and museums.

5 days in London isn't long but is definitely better than no days in London.

5 days in London in Feb isn't as nice as 5 days in London in June - but again, better than no days in London.

But 5 days is not long enough to see London and Cambridge and Edinburgh.

You could do your five days and squeeze in a day trip to Cambridge - but that is about it.

oh my gosh it is very cold here at the moment. Just this morning on the news they said for us to expect the snow to start falling on sunday and will continue for the next three weeks.
It has been relatively mild but it is starting to get very cold.

I dont think that you could really see London, Cambridge and Edinburgh in the short time that you are here. It would be a push I think. Edinburgh is quite a distance and a train journey is about 5 hours. if you get a train ticket now you can get it for 39GBP one way. Have a look on www.nationalrail.co.uk

In my advice I think you are best off going to London and squeezing in a day trip to Cambridge and maybe on the next trip do Scotland.

I agree with the others - it's not the ideal time, but London is February is better than no London! I'd also skip Edinburgh, though, for weather and time reasons. Stay in London the whole time, and if you decide you feel like it, you can easily do a day trip or two from there.

You could have a great time in London in February visiting museums and going to the theater every night. There isn't enough time for a day trip to Cambridge/Edinboro.

The advantage of a large city like London is there are many things to do indoors, including shopping, museums and theatre. The advantage of February is there won't be many other tourists, so you can move around almost like a local.

I went one year in the first week of March and while it was cold and a little snowy- it was lovely to see London in the snow and not be overrun with people. There are enough indoor activities to keep you busy and you can even do an easy Daytrip to Cambridge. I'd jump at the chance but I love London!
