London Hotels

Any suggestions for a London hotel somewhat near theatres/Covent Garden---reasonable but not cheap (if London has such a thing). Talking in the $150 and slightly up range. Thanks

Hi Maggie-

I just returned from London and we stayed at the Charing Cross hotel which is right near Trafalgar Square. It's location is perfect, you can walk to theatres, restaurants, Parliment/Big Ben. We paid 125 USD, which includes a big breakfast. The hotel is finishing up renovations now. The rooms and dining rooms are done, but they were still working on the lobby when we were there last week.
It has all the amenities you could want, plus nice decor. You can locate the Thistle hotels website at www.thistlehotels.com. However, I would call the 800# and ask if they are running any promotions. That's how we got the $125 deal. Have a good trip!

Stayed at the Vicarage Hotel in Kensington - a grand place to stay right around the corner from Kensington Palace. The cost is 63 pounds per nite but there are no elevators and 5 flights of stairs. You must reserve at least 90 days in advance! Email me if you need the website.

Call Raddison. They run a great group of Edurdian Style Hotels which are very atmospheric and british. Inquire about specials. We stayed in one in the Oxford Street area near Marble Arch which was very nice.

Also call 'Forte Hotels' 800 number. They also run a bunch of respectable hotels which often offer specials. The Kensington Close, Cumberland or Strand Palace are all nice.
