London Hotels

Amy sugestions for 4 star London Hotels? My husband and I are traveling to Europe together for the first time. We want something with a British flavor, but modern amenities (shower/tub), queen size bed, etc. and good service. We don't want to walk out and be in the middle of a very busy street. Would like to be near some museums.

Any suggestions? A friend recommended either the Thistle Kensington Palacr, Thistle Victoria, or The Rubens at the Palace.

Any feedback on these names?

You don't waant Kensington Palace, tiny rooms, our friends moved out after a day. what about Brown's. the mayfair if you are going up to the 4 star price range. Beaufort Gardens, cranley place, No 16 sumner place may suit better. they al have websites

I was also thinking about staying in one of the Thistle hotels near Buckingham Palace this winter. Is the Thistle Victoria a good hotel? Thanks for any feedback.

Martha
We are going back to the Mayfair for the third time this summer. No matter where we stay we always wish we were at the Mayfair. Nice size, location, lobby bar and yet quiet. Have stayed at a lot of London hotels, but this is our favorite. The only place that could make me go elsewhere would be the Savoy but it's become incredibly expensive.

In London we often stay at the Rubens, although Buckinghan Palace Road is busy and the sidewalk is very crowded around 10:30 to 12:30 on the days of the changing of the guards. But it's very close to St. James's Park, our favorite {and is a pleasant walk through that and Green Park to Piccadilly]. It's also close to Victoria Station for train or bus out of town. The lounge is relaxing after a day of sightseeing and you can get pretty good supper dishes if you don't feel like going out [have only been in the restaurant room for breakfast].
