London - Guards Hotel - Lancaster Gate ??????

Considering this property for a stay in June.
In this price range - twin for 85 pounds (sorry my computer doesn't have the symbol)- is this a good spot, or do you have other recommendations for London site seeing.

Don't know your hotel, but we have stayed at the Royal Lancaster at Lancaster Gate. It's right across from the park and you can walk through the park down to Knightsbridge etc. The underground station at Lancaste Gate is very conveient. One stop away is Marble Arch and you can go anywhere from there. Also within an easy walk is Paddington Station. The downside is that there are not a lot of cute restaurants, but if you're a tube rider, that doesn't matter. It's a good neighborhood and the price sounds good too. Have fun.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and got
a great response from someone who stayed at the
London Guards with her family. Check the response
from 3/24/98. I found it reassuring.

We stayed at the Commodore Hotel near Lancaster Gate in early Feb. I'm rather certain the the Royal Guard was in the same little square. I went in to get a brochure. It looked perfectly acceptable. I think you can access it on the net--pictures, etc.

I stayed at the London Guards Hotel in September and plan to stay there again this year. I found the location to be terrrific and it's excellent value for money. Our room had a large en suite bathroom, fridge, hair dryer, coffee/tea making equipment and air conditioning. Breakfast was included and was more than adequate - suggest you drink the tea rather than the coffee! The hotel is a three or four minute walk from Lancaster Gate tube, a two minute walk from Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, and a seven or eight minute walk from Marble Arch and Oxford Street. It is in a lovely old building which has been newly renovated. I booked through Demon (www/demon.co.uk/hotel-uk) and the pictures and information supplied were accurate.
