London Guards Hotel
Hi! Has anyone stayed at the London Guards Hotel in London? If so, what are the rates, is it clean, convenient and safe? And which would you suggest between that and the Morgan Hotel in Bloomsbury?
Thank you for any help!
Patti

If you are referring to the "Horse Guard" hotel, it is pretty nice, but beware that they don't try to give you something less than you booked, as they did us. THey tried to put us in a dark closet size room, not even room to open the suitcase, and the window opened into a black air shaft, no light entering the room at all. We simply went to the desk and told them it was not acceptable and when we returned in the afternoon we expected to be in a different room. They complained mightily but when we came back, we were in a nice room. Beware that British hotels are not "uniform" in any way, and you can pay for a "double" or single and get something else entirely. It pays to stick to your guns and demand, politely of course, what you paid for. I don't know the rates at the present. We always stay in Bloomsbury nowdays, one of the "tourist" class hotels, (Bedford, Tavistock, etc.) as we are seldom in our rooms, and clean and central are the most important factors to us. I don't know the Morgan, but you can search on the internet for all the info.

Patti,
There are a number of "Guards" hotels in London, some of which have gotten less than favorable reviews here. The "London Guards" hotel to which you refer has a good reputation. Recently refurbished, near two tube stations, just north of Hyde Park and reasonably priced it's worth a stay. Check its website which details amenities and costs:
www.demon.co.uk/hotel-uk/guards.html
Can't comment on the Morgan.

I stayed at the London Guards Hotel and would stay there again. The location is terrrific and it's excellent value for money. We had a room for 3 for about 100 pounds a night including breakfast. Our room had a large en suite bathroom, fridge, hair dryer, coffee/tea making equipment and air conditioning. The hotel is a three or four minute walk from Lancaster Gate tube, a two minute walk from Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, and a seven or eight minute walk from Marble Arch and Oxford Street. I booked through Demon (www/demon.co.uk/hotel-uk) and the pictures and information supplied were accurate.
