London Gatwick to Soho best way
Can someone tell us if there is a train or easy transportation from Gatwick airport to the Soho or Mayfair district areas? Or do we need to take a cab and how expensive is it ?
Thanks, Jim

hi jim,
here's my take on this. If you are traveling lite to moderate, only have one suitcase each and possibly a carryon, I would purchase a round trip ticket for gatwick express which will take you into victoria station in london. from there you can take the metro to your soho or mayfair destination.
if you are traveling heavy, many suitcases and family members, you might want to consider an airport transfer such a ray skinners.
the gatwick express will get you into the city in about 45 minutes from start to finish and then your metro will be about 15 minutes.
depending on time of day and traffic, the airport transfer can take up to 2 hours, but will be from airport direct to your hotel and why it's the smart way if you are traveling heavy.
hope this helps!

FYI, Gatwick Express is currently running a '4 for 2' promotion on tickets bought at its booths (presumably at both ends). If there are only 2 of you, then pal up with some likely suspects at the queue.
Others have it right when they say travel light. Get a taxi from Victoria to your final destination.

Or you could forget about the Gatwick Express and take a local train from Gatwick to Croydon and change there to a train to Charing Cross, which is a short walk from Soho. The Thameslink and other local trains running this route also charge about half the fare the Gatwick Express does, but they take longer and are at times crowded commuter trains lacking the luxury in Gatwick Express.
