London during Christmas week
I am taking my family to London for the 1st time and will be there from Dec. 25th to Dec 31st. We're staying near Buckingham Palace are and are looking for things to do for my wife and I along with 2 kids. I'm not sure what will stay closed on 25th and 26th. Kindly recommend the locations to visit and areas to avoid. Thanks for your response.

You'll find just about everything closed on the 25th, including all public transport, except the Heathrow Express.

The 26th is also a holiday here (Boxing Day), so things will still be very quiet. There will be some public transport - for full details of all transport over this period, check out

http://www.thetube.com/content/tickets/xmastravel/

Some shops do open on the 26th and many have their sales starting then. I'm not sure what tourist attractions will be open. I know the British Museum is closed.

The rest of the time you are here, most, if not all things will be open.

For things to do when attractions are closed - assuming the weather's OK there is still plenty to see. You can always take a walk through one of the parks, or better still along the Thames. Take a stroll round the eerily quiet streets of the financial district "the City" (it'll be deserted on the 25th and 26th).

I'm sure others will have more ideas. Enjoy London!

I will be in London during Christmas week as well, and based on my research, almost everything is closed on Christmas Day including public transportation.
VisitLondon.com has lots of information for Christmas Day activities and the week after.
