I'm planning my first trip to London and have a question about the bus system. I am a bit confused on one point. When a Bus finishes its route in one direction does it reverse and travel the same route by which it came? Example- the bus map tells me that the #9 goes from point A to point B. Does it then turn and go from point B to point A? <BR> I know this may sound silly, but I would be grateful for any help.

Bob, <BR>It does. Buses ricochet from point A to B and back to A. When in London pick up a copy of the Central London bus guide. You can get it at tube stations and tourist information offices. It's an excellent free layout of the city's bus routes.

The buses just go back & forth on the same route. For example, your bus # 9 would go from near Harrods to the theatre district at Aldwych & turn around. Just be on the same side of the street the bus is going to go in that direction. <BR>

Just a detail: the all-London bus map, also free at tube stations, shows all the bus lines in central London, whereas the central London bus map misses some -- and doesn't tell you so. <BR> <BR>I'm glad you're trying the busses. For short trips, a mile or so, they are as fast as the tube or faster, and for longer trips they give fine views from upstairs. Just in the rush hour they become tedious. Your London 2-zone travelcard covers busses, tubes, and local trains within a large area -- out to Greenwich, for example. The daily card at four pounds becomes valid only at 0930 Monday to Friday, but any time at weekends. The one week 2-zone card costs 19 pounds and a photo, and works at any hour. <BR> <BR>Please write if I can help further.
