I think it's unlikely you'll get many replies without more info. A good area for what?? Are you looking for a residential area (like St John's Wood) or a more central area like Chelsea? What is your budget? Where are you working? How old are you? etc.etc. etc.

We are a family with 2 kids; my husband will work somewhere at Canada square (i think it's in the center of the city) , but he does not mind the comuting (no more then 1 hour). We need a save meighborhood with good school.

Canada Square is at Canary Wharf which is a newish trendy development with lots of high rise apartments. I have no idea what schools there are or what they're like there though. This is not central London. Here's a link to an underground map so you can see where it is. Canary Wharf is on the Jubilee tube line.

Greenwich is a possibility as there's a foot tunnel.
I would suggest you try finding a chat room or message board of ex-pats living in London (someone posted about one here but I can't find it.)
