London and Paris hotel rooms for three generation family trip

Planning a trip with my daughter and granddaughter in the summer - our ages range from 16 to an active 69. Either 9 days in London or 6 days in London and 3 days in Paris. Need help in finding a hotel room big enough to share since I know most european hotels are on the small side. Hoping for less than $300.00 night (if possible) in a central area. I have stayed in an apartment on Queensgate in Kensington many years ago, but don't remember the address, but would appreciate any suggestions or help in finding a decent hotel in a good location.

I can't help you with London, but I've stayed in a triple in Paris I thought was great -- all twin beds, with one (maybe for you) a little bit apart from the other two in a small alcove.

This was at the Hotel Muguet, in the 7th (near the Eiffel Tower). It's well within your budget, so you might be looking for a hotel with more amenities than I do...!

Good luck with your planning; sounds like a fun trip!

I'd look into apartments -- lots more space for less money than a small typical triple hotel room. The Queensgate area would be fine. But there are many other good neighborhoods.

In general - hotels of the same quality are cheaper in Paris than in London so you could rent a flat in London and then a triple hotel room in Paris for 2 or 3 days.

But if you do both cities -- book open jaw flights -- into London and home from Paris to save you the hassle of returing to London.

Paris hotels are very strict about the number of individuals staying in one room. Here is an excellent list of hotels offering rooms for 3 or more:

On the very excellent list provided by Sarastro is the Hotel Palais Bourbon in the 7th. We stayed in a triple there. I love love love the street, and we went back and stayed in another hotel on the same street the following year.

Try Londontown.com for London triples. If you don't mind staying just a bit further out than Kensington the Jury's Inn at Chelsea Harbor has very nice large triples. The transportation is excellent with the C1 bus right outside the door which takes you to King's Rd where you can get the 11 or 22. The 11 goes by all the tourity places . You don't say when ou are going but I found very good rates at the Regency on Queensgate and at Grosvenor Kensington. The GK is being renovated right now but should reopen shortly. I paid less than 90 GBP for a large double and I know they have some triples

thanks for everyone's comments. I've finally got our flights booked and have been researching apartments in London -- and feeling slightly overwhelmed. I'm considering the following apartments - Base2stay, Harrington Court or Harrington Gardens or Citadines in South Kensington. I was hoping to find a place with a clear separate bedroom to the living area and I'm not sure that Base2Stay or Citadines will give us that. And there seems to be very mixed reviews on the Harrington Rd apartments - re noise from night club? and cleanliness. Would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Base2Stay could be called S. Kens. in a stretch -- but it is really a block from Earl's Court tube station. Not my favorite location. Plus its triple rooms cost nearly £200 a night.

For that much $$/££ you could get an honest to goodness flat.

If I was going to stay at a London Citadines - I'd choose the Trafalgar Sq location.

I have already booked a Paris hotel, and booked flying into London, taking the Eurostar to Paris and back home from Paris to Toronto as suggested in this forum. So now my last decision is the London apartment/hotel. I've now dropped Base2stay from the list, after checking it's location on a map. I think that the Citadines trafalger square was under renovation?? so some rooms were good, some not so great? Still have some interest in Harrington Court apartments or Harrington Gdns apartments or anywhere else that could be suggested either apartment or a hotel with enough beds and space.
