Either works, but each have the pluses and minuses:

Eurostar: downtown London to downtown Brussels Midi, leave from same station to Amsterdam downtown.

Ferry: train/bus from London to port, ferry to Netherlands coast, then train/bus to Amsterdam. You could take an overnight ferry, which would save sightseeing time.

We found flying to be the cheapest route. About $170 round trip. Two chunnel trips are more than that.

if the wind blows from the north itīs only 5 hours swimming, but if blows from south, better expect 10 hours swim

Guess i should have been more specific. We're looking for the most fun/scenic route without having to leave at six in the morning or arriving after 11 at night. thanks
