London accomodations
My sister and I will be spending two nights in London in August. Could anyone recommend a charming, reasonably priced ($175 is our top end price, prefer something cheaper)and safe hotel or B & B? I would like a convenient location rather than taking a train from the outskirts of town. Has anyone stayed at the Gallery Hotel, Gainsborough Hotel, or Willett Hotel? Thanks in advance for responding.

In May we stayed at a nice place in Bloomsbury - it's the Crescent Hotel, run by 2 women, in a crescent of other similar hotels facing a garden - Cartwright Gardens, is the area. It's south of Euston station by a few blocks, and north of Russell Square station. Easy access, very clean, spacious room with good shower - and the price was L75, or about $125. We used the Russell Square station most of the time. Pubs and a few restaurants nearby. For restaurants, just go to Leicester Square and you'll have dozens of choices. We discovered Chinatown there - lots of activity, wide, brightly lit streets with many restaurants. The people watching on the Square is fab - lots of street entertainers and night clubs. E-mail me for more info. Have a great trip.

We have booked rooms in August at the Morgan Hotel in Bloomsbury. It sounds very nice, if simple. Great location across from British Museum. I believe we found it in Fodor's recommendations on this site - there is also a B&B site for London. I'm not sure of the web address - but if you do general British tour/London tour searches, you'll find it.
Hi, also recommend the Harlingford and Mentone, both also on Cartwright Gardens...

I have found a neat little site that may help in your research on hotels/B&Bs in London....

http://uk.multimap.com/all-hotels/places.cgi?db=london

Select London Streets, enter Southampton Row for example, and it pops up with a map of Bloomsbury. Select the area near the Russell Square tube, top right (~Guildford). You will then get info on hotels at/near that intersection and web sites for info: prices, booking/fax numbers...etc...

Enter Russell Square (WC1) and click on Cartwright Gardens, and you will get a list of B&Bs, hotels... including Harlingford..

Hope this helps...

I highly recommend the London Guards Hotel. It`s right near the Marble Arch and Hyde Park and just off a main road with buses and tour busses etc. I got a special rate off the internet fore 85 pounds a night. I belive you can check it out through Smoothhounds web site. It`s and old building but was just renovated and opened last year so it`s very nice. Great quiet neighborhood too. If you decide on this one get back to me and i will give you more info (how to get there the easiest, places to eat close, etc.)

Hi there,
wonder if anyone could help me with accomodations in Weybridge, Surrey. I'm from Singapore and will be heading there for a one year training stint. I've been asking friends and they say rentals is about $100 pounds a week, but that was about 4 years back when they were staying in London. Can anyone provide me with links or information regarding availability of rentals in the top end of $500 pounds per month.
Another thing, I heard that B&B are cheap, but do they provide cooking facilities?

Ryan

One of the best deals in London is the Vicarage Hotel in Kensington which is charging 63 pounds for a double. It is on a quiet street about a block from the palace. Kensington is a wonderful neighborhood to stay in. If you can't book the Vicarage, try the Abby Court which is right next door. Here is the web site for the vicarage book as early as possible. http://londonvicaragehotel.com/

Hi, I have booked accommodation for September at the Grosvenor Court Hotel, Devonshire Terrace, Bayswater.
It has just been refurbished and only opened this week. Everything in it is new!
I booked twin accommodation with ensuite and continental breakfast for 59 pound a night.
You can view and contact this place at
http://www.demon.co.uk/hotel/grosvenor.html
Our Australian dollar is only converting to 35p at the moment so we are paying approximately $180 AUS dollars a night.
The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Hyde Park.
Nearest tube is Lancaster Gate.
Local attractions: Hyde Park and Oxford street.
Have a great trip
Kim.
