Thanks, Michael ... we're heading for the Loire Valley ourselves next week, so your beautiful photos have really gotten me psyched!

What was the highlight of the trip for you?

Thank you for sharing these beautiful pics. We were in Lorie Valley 3 years ago and these pics brought back a lot of good memory. We didn't visit some of the ones in your albumn since our kids were very young at that time so I am so glad to see pics of the ones we missed.

Great photos. Loved the gardens at Villandry. Quite a place.

As usual, Michael, your photos are lovely. I too will be stopping to visit friends in the Loire in early September.

nonnafelice, we happened to have liked Langeais a lot, although Chenonceaux was great--we had not seen it in 20 years. For garden lovers, I strongly recommend Chaumont for its annual garden competition; we did not see any of the interiors. These pictures represent three or more visits to the Loire. If driving from Paris to the Dordogne, we usually take in a couple of chateaux. Angers is part of the Loire, but I believe that I put it at the end of my Brittany album.

Nice Michael. As with others..good memories. I haven't been to Langeais, looks like it would be worthwhile. Where did you stay, food recommendations...

In Langeais we stayed at the Hôtel Duchesse Anne. The hotel had been recently renovated, and clearly the bathroom recently added to the rooms. The rooms wer large, but the shower stall so narrow that you had to squat to pick up the soap from the floor, and even then your knees touched the wall. But I would stay there again. With dinner, the cost was 99€ for two three years ago. Langeais has market on Sunday, where we picked up lunch.
There is one picnic table on the banks of the Loire. One of the river pictures was taken there.
