mokka4 I didn't realize that about the buses. I was afraid Hotel Schlussel would be too far. Thanks so much for all your good advice. I'm going to look at Hotel Ambassador as well.

I did have a river view -- and it was great! If the property interests you, you might hold onto a reservation for a while to see if someone cancels a reservation for a river-view room, letting you upgrade. To be honest, I don't pay much attention to decor -- I spend exceedingly little time in hotel rooms, and even if they are "tired," well, I'm probably more tired than the room! I do remember that the elevator was small, but it was big enough for me and my suitcase, and that's really all that mattered to me. I don't recall how big / small it was. Sorry I can't be of more help!

(Sorry, missed this comment first time through.)
As I just mentioned, I had a river-side room and thought it well worth it -- the views really are quite wonderful. I remember a fair amount of noise early in the evening -- the height of "happy hour" -- but the noise level dropped substantially after that, so that once I came back from dinner, I barely noticed the sound. That said, it's been a while and my memory could be faulty.

mokka4 we went ahead and booked Hotel Schlussel in a deluxe double room with balcony. It's very large (323 sq ft) and great price. Thank you for all your help and everyone else's on this forum.

Sounds great! And there are FAR fewer cafes along
that side of the river, so noise should not be an issue. Have fun!
It is very walkable as well. Use Google map, inputting pedestrian option.
