You are all so kind to voice your opinions and I am thankful regardless if they diverse or diverge! Bring it on! We are tired of researching and booked the room in London and Moreton in Marsh. The Hull issue is foreboding

Any neighborhood of London is OK - look more for a good deal than location IMO but all things being equal go for location. And the Kensington location to me would be great - a nice upscale part of London and you have a Whole Foods Market at your disposal if that type of food is your bag!

"I just didn't want the OP being scared off..."
I don't believe one opinion, that there are more interesting locations, would "scare" a sensible person. If you cannot accept that there are opinions of some value that differ from your own you might consider a blog rather than a forum format as that is precisely what a forum is for. It allows for differing tastes in travel styles, among other things.
I think we all might try to differentiate between posts that we consider poor information from those with which we disagree from a purely subjective point of view and let the latter stand as just more information to take or leave. I respect opinion that comes from experience and I think some here appreciate varying views. It's what makes the difference between just another thread and one that may be informative from a number of points of view. Those are the ones I like to read, even when, or especially when I know the place being discussed.

I was NOT disagreeing w/ your information/opinion. For cry in out loud! I was commenting that since the OP had found three properties in a totally acceptable/convenient area of London that fits their specific needs and budget . . . WHY suggest a different area? Simply to confuse them some more?
I don't stay on Cromwell Road -- but if someone has found a nice property there and it fits the budget I don't tell them ' Oh no, there is this better place - start looking all over again'.
I post suggestions based on the criteria/requirements of the person asking . . . NOT on what my particular preferences are. I don't post the same recommendations for everyone -- I post what I believe is is most useful for the specific person/situation.
capisce?

Capisce....I saw your heart. I'm sad that it was mistaken as a criticism. I do appreciate you all...again, lets' be ok with differences without attacking each other...we all have the same purpose for being here - to give and receive helpful information.

"Ah Hull just named a European Cultural Capital for 2017"
It's not.
Each country gets to nominate one of its cities as European Capital of Culture every 15 years: Britain's next slot is in 2023, when we'll have the ghastly prospect of intense political pressure to nominate somewhere in Wales. My money's on Prestatyn.
But the buzz around Liverpool's year in 2008 was so extraordinary, the British decided to have a UK City of Culture every four years. It's not really clear how successful the nomination of Derry in 2013 was, but the nature of Northern Ireland makes such questions tough to answer
Hull's UK nomination for 2017 sounds much more straightforward. Clearly, no city on earth can rival Liverpool for these things: but Hull's close to being a perfect Liverpool mini-me.

We are thinking we would like to visit York for one nights stay but finding availability is difficult as it is a Friday night and, we look for one room for 3 adults. Also depend on public transport so coming in by train.
Possible Itinerary as of now:
London 3 nights (booked)
Moreton in Marsh 1 night (Booked)
Hull for family 2 nights (Booked but not paid for) Family Visit
York for 1 night
Edinburgh for 2 nights (great hotel options)
OR
Hull for 2 nights
Edinburgh for 3 nights
If we add York....What can we do or see or where shall we stay in the Yorkshire area that is accessible by train or bus? Is there a possibility of leaving luggage at train station secured in York while we sightsee for the day and then travel on to Edinburgh that night? All I have found so far available in York is the Hilton and the reviews aren't so great. Remember our issue - a room for 3 and a budget of 150GBP (we do go higher when we realize we need to but only to 185).

You could so York as a stop when going to Edinburgh - out your bags in a station locker and spend a few hours walking around this fine town - seeing the famous Minster and then move on for the night in Edinburgh - rather than not seeing it at all.

York itself will take up a whole day - no need to day trip out of the city and again a stop en route to Edinburgh will allow you to see the main sights - the train station is right by the town center and the York Minster a short walk away.If interested in transportation museums the National Railway Museum (http://www.nrm.org.uk/) has not only trains but lots of other transports - check out the collection of Royal Trains and carriages.
