For your London accommodation budget I'm sure you could find an apartment for the 3 of you, 1 bedroom plus a sleeper sofa, or even a 2 bedroom.

Days Inn Hyde Park
Lower ratings on Tripadvisor but closer by .7 mi to Center of London sights. There is a double and twin so I, being the third person will have a bed. Continental Breakfast included.

Padding ton would not be my first choice...it's a bit far out and I don't like the area...I would try to find something else...

Both of those hotels are in the Paddington area. One is in front of the station and the other is in the back of the station. I agree w/ jamikins - not a place I'd stay . . . though it isn't terrible.

I am finding it difficult to credit that you can't find a better situated hotel in London in May that will take 3 people in a room. I put a random date in May into booking.com and found 517 hotels with triple or family rooms. I found several in Kensington and Chelsea and some more in Westminster, Camden, etc. you could also book a double for the rest of the party for the entirety of their stay, and a single for you for your one night.

We thought Paddington WAS a good location....so now I know and am back to the drawing board. 180 is the limit (or close) per night. Londontown.com is a fabulous website, better than booking com THANKs again...will keep you posted

Paddington isn't a slum or anything. The main problem is it is a long way from anything of interest -- except for Hyde Park. It isn't on a convenient route in from Heathrow (except for expensive trains). And where the Days Inn is located is just a lot of low quality B&B hotels.

Properties along the Piccadilly tube line (South Kensington, Covent Garden, Russell Square, etc.) will be more convenient/central. As would Victoria, and Westminster.

That would be a better choice IMO. It is near the Gloucester Road tube station - on the direct Underground line to Heathrow and w/ lots of restaurants/shops nearby.

Now we have to decide if we want to up the amount we spend to stay at Crowne Kensignton.

Do you mean the Crowne <i>Plaza</i> Kensington? If so, any of those three would be a fine choice - just pick based on your budget.

I do mean that one janisj! We got a great rate at our budget by dealing direct with hotel and prepaying. Waiting now for their call to pay. We do have travel insurance too to cover issues should something happen.

We also just booked a room in Moreton-in-Marsh at the Redensdale Arms through a walking guide Anne Martis.

Now for the Hull visit to our uncle and onto Edinburgh. Phew....lots of work is paying off.

The Ashburn, judging from the website, looks very nice. However, they refer to the Cromwell Rd location as "situated in a peaceful side street" which it is not. I'm not fond of that part of So. Kensington. Closer to the park and V&A is far nicer. For just a few nights it isn't bad but not interesting, in my opinion.

Put the address, including postcode, into Google maps and have a look on Streeview and you'll see what a mean, a very boring neighborhood and no better in my opinion, unless you like being on the Piccadilly line, than Bayswater (nr Paddington). Crowne Plaza Kensington, same thing, next block. Some will, no doubt, disagree but I've stayed in the neighborhood and don't like it.

A good rate for a nice place can trump an interesting neighborhood. And you're close to more interesting things, so good.

Ah Hull just named a European Cultural Capital for 2017! About the least likely city to nab such an honor according to British press reports I read but you'll find more culture than usual this year perhaps as they ramp up this down at its heels port.

Most visitors LOVE staying in that neighborhood. So convenient to/from the airport, not far from the parks, V&A, many restaurants/shops. Are there leafier/prettier streets - sure. But for a short visit to London the location of the Crowne Plaza is quite good.

Inevitably..."Some will, no doubt, disagree".

I just didn't want the OP being scared off from a totally acceptable neighborhood since after a LOT of searching he has found three decent places at decent rates . . .
