Lodging in Edinburg in October

My husband and I will be in Edinburgh from October 2 to 6 and we would like some feedback on a nice but reasonable B&B or small hotel. We will not have a car in Edinburgh so we want to be able to walk to the palace, castle, etc. Has anyone stayed at Elmview, Stuart House, 17 Abercromby Place ?

Haven't stayed at any of the places you mentioned but we DID stay at 16 Lynedoch place and it was GREAT-I wish I could MAKE people stay there!!! The website is:
www.16lynedochplace.co.uk

Also, we have pictures of it on our website-- www.panteravb.com
Click on Scotland 2003 trip and scroll down to the Lynedoch pics...

I have stayed at MW Townhouse and also at Fraoch House. Both have websites and were lovely B&Bs with great rooms and food.
Do not worry about being too close to the centre as the bus service is excellent and really cheap £2.50 daysaver for all day travel(£1.80 after 9.30am). Just make sure you have correct coins when buying ticket as change not given and use the same company all day. If travelling from the airport the airport bus is super efficient (£5 return) and I picked up a tiny bus map on there too which was invaluable)

I do have to say something about the bus situation. We stayed at Lynedoch our first 2 nights in SCotland, and our last 2 we stayed at a place that required bus service to get to the city centre. Granted, the bus IS easy to use--great system, etc etc..but we MUCH preferred being within walking distance of city centre. MUCH.

We've stayed at both the Elmview and Stuarts and they're very nice. They're right next door to each other and across from the Meadows. Very gracious and helpful hosts and it's about a 20 minute walk to the Royal Mile. You can't go wrong with either one but I'd give a slight edge to the Stuarts for decor.
