Lodging around Pisa

We plan on driving from Venice to Cinque Terre and would like to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. From reading, I don't think I would choose to spend the night in Pisa but it might be too much to continue all the way to Cinque Terre in one day.

Are there any quiet little towns where we might stay and explore near Pisa?

Lucca sounds good. Any suggestions on hotels?

I concur---Lucca!
Go to www.knowital.com for hotels. The Villa Romantica is good with a car.

Yes! We just got back from Tuscany and stayed in Lucca for two nights. If you want a bargain, I recommend Albergo San Martino which cost us 98 euro a night. Our room was clean and the bathroom was better than that of any of the other 3 star hotel we stayed in.

I agree as well Lucca!if you don't find anything suitable, Monticatini Terme is lovely and 15 minutes from Lucca.
I did the trip Venice to Cinque Terre two years ago, consider Verona as well as an important stop.
Best Regard
