Living Language Tapes to help with a new language.

My husband would like to get more familiar with the language for our next trip (Portugal)

Has anyone had any experience with these series of language tapes?

Opinions?

I liked the Living Language tapes when I was learning French, but I'm glad that I began with a set of more basic vocabulary tapes initially. As I recall, the Living Language was more of a "Square 2" than a "Square 1" place in the process for me. (It could just be me though!)

I and my friends only use this series, for French, Italian, German, and I believe my friend also has Russian (he speaks 5 languages and lives in Europe-most of them he polished up through the LL series). I learned enough Italian from reading the Begin./Intermediate Italian Living Language book to test into the intermediate levels in an Italian language school in Florence. I highly recommend all of them.

I bought the Pimsleur Language tapes in French for myself. They are wonderful and I think they have Portuguese too. I got them from LingoShop and they have a buy back policy.
