Live in Venice during Access Contribution Days 2025

Here’s info regarding the access contribution for daily visitors and exemptions for 2025.

The days in 2025, in which the Access Contribution will be due, from 8:30 to 16:00, are the following-

18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 April

1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 May

1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 June

4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 July

Our Apartment rental agency sends the address for the rental a week before arrival. We wanted to get our exemption before arriving and received the address to register which we did once we had the address without difficulty. The agency did send a link a day before our arrival when they were able to register their apartments and we reapplied.

So far we haven’t been asked to show the exemption after arriving at the Venice airport or walking around the city and haven’t seen anyone being questioned.

Even with the new access requirements it is so good to be visiting Venice again!

Another way to understand the dates when the fee must be paid—

April 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, plus May 1: entire half month because of Holy Week and National Holidays

For May, June, and July, the fee must be paid for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only. (No fees due for Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays)

For the daily visitor coming to visit the Ancient City of Venice for 2025 the fees are* €5 if bought 4 days in advance

* €10 if bought less than 4 days before visit
That could be tricky for visitors trying to plan a day to visit based on the weather.
Today while walking along Riva degli Shiavoni near the S.Zaccaria vaporetto stops we saw a check point with a red booth with staff standing at the booth wearing red uniforms. At the time we walked by no one was being interviewed.

There are mid morning to evening crowds walking on the major routes to and around St Mark’s Square, Rialto, and the train station but away from those areas the crowds thin out.

One very useful tip we got from our apartment rental host in Canneregio was to use Apple Maps because they were more reliable than Google maps. Apple Maps worked great! We didn’t get any directions to walk across a canal!

While walking to the train station Saturday outside on the steps there was a small group of adults wearing signs for the access contribution days. At the time we were there they weren’t interviewing travelers. Though we carried our exemption papers every day we were never asked for them during our stay.

Some restaurant information to follow.

Restaurants we enjoyed and some photos

The restaurants we booked for lunch weeks ahead of our visit were

this restaurant was open Easter Sunday and an easy walk after an overnight flight from our apartment rental in Cannaregio. The restaurant was full, food and service were very good for a holiday meal.

La Zucca was the hardest reservation to get because of the limited times calls were accepted for reservations. There were many busy signals or recordings till we finally were able to book a table for two lunch reservations at the beginning and end of our stay in Venice. . Meals are vegetarian/vegan and meat dishes, no fish was on the menu. After being there the effort was well worth it!

Menu in Italian only, there are changes each day, here’s a sample of part of the menu

Duck with couscous, eggplant lasagne

Ossobucco, the lasagne with zucchini flowers was incredible but didn’t make the photo

Delicious pumpkin flan the restaurant is known for

Tagliatelle with brussel sprouts and guanciale
Before I manage to lose images I will post these now.
A couple more restaurants to follow, hopefully tomorrow.

Highlights of Venice Restaurants we enjoyed

Osteria alle Testiere. Calle Del Mondo Novo Castello 0415227220 http:www.osterialletestiere.it/menu/?lang=it. Living up to its positive reviews this cozy osteria served my favorite Spaghetti alle vongole bevarasse dish ever! Service was friendly and efficient. Reservations are best and can be made online. The dining room is small and books up weeks in advance.

Panna cotta with cherries and warm pistachio cake with gelato

Al Covo. Campiello De La Pescaria 3968 +39.041.5223812. https://ristorantealcovo.com/menu-3/. We were able to book a reservation the day before for lunch. Though there were mixed reviews we enjoyed our meal outside at a table for two shaded by an awning. Service by all wait staff was welcoming and attentive. I’d go back again for the chocolate cake! The ‘fried cream’ was a first for us and was like a couple of bites of a crispy sugar coated donut in a good way!

The last two reasonable and tasty stops in Cannaregio

A delightful small bookstore and vegetarian/vegan bistro. Fresh, healthy and delicious vegetarian/vegan crostini and salads that we looked forward to ordering in the late afternoons. Open from 9am till at least 9pm 7 days a week. Dining is offered outside along the canal or at a few tables indoors. There’s beer, tea, juice and organic Prosecco from their own vineyard, desserts. Sullaluna also has a bookstore and bistro at 41 Carmine St, New York.

Our most reasonable and tasty lunch with Special Spritzs, Rigatoni Amatriciana and Pappardelle with boar sauce

if you go to Venice, enjoy! It’s a place we’ve returned to again and again and it never grows old!

Thank you for this report! For some reason, although I saw the trip report tag, I thought it was a post only about the access contribution days. Appreciate the dining updates. I was in Venice again in October, and you may have been the poster from whom I first learned about sullaluna. I'm always on the lookout for simple/veg/healthy to balance out all my other holiday eating, so thank you again!

Hi Leely, thank you for your kind response! This was our 1st visit to sullaluna. I came across a couple of more photos I found on my phone. If you are going back to Venice we ended up ordering over the shoe boots that aren’t very fashionable but we wore them twice on a rainy day and again when there was some minor flooding. We only travel with carry ons and these packed flat. Our sneakers remained dry, they had soles with good grips and zippers to make them easy to put on. They would be great for aqua alta or stormy days.
