L'Isle Sur La Sorgue

Can anyone tell me if this is a good area to home base for 4 days and any info on a B&B called Le Clos Saint Antoine? I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Isle sur la sorgue is a beautiful town with a little river running through it. We stayed outside of Gordes and would go here on daytrips. They have a great antique market and a produce market on certain days of the week. Also in town is a fabulous tapenade factory and store called Delices de Luberon.
I definitely recommend Isle sur la Sorgue for it's charm and central location for touring around Provence.

If you're not relying on a car, you may like to know that it is on both train and bus routes. I went there for a day trip by bus from Avignon on a Sunday.

Hi Alan - I have mentioned this wonderful B&B a couple of times on this site, so if you got your initial info from me, forgive me for repeating myself!

L'Isle is the perfect base area - about 30 minutes by car east of Avignon and easy driving distance from all the villages in Provence you will want to see.

We stayed at Le Clos Saint Antoine last May and are returning April 11th for a week. The hosts, Jackie and William, are very gracious and helpful, speak English, and have done a beautiful job restoring their centuries-old stone farmhouse. The breakfast by the pool was a treat every morning, and Jackie always left something special in our room after a day of sightseeing - a scented candle burning, a bouquet of roses, a small bottle of wine....gosh, I can hardly wait 3 more weeks!!!!

I don't know what type of accommodation you like, but it sure worked for us! Website: www.clos-saint-antoine.com

Have a wonderful trip. Maybe we'll see you there!
We loved this town. They have a wonderful market on Sundays with food and antiques.

That's interesting, I am busy kind of planning a trip to that area myself and kind of centered on that town as the best central base for what I want to see. That B&B does look attractive on the web site, but Caroline (if you read this) I was dismayed to read they do not accept credit cards; most places I've found in Provence, even small 4-5 room inns, take credit cards. How are you paying for your stay? BTW the host web site for that B&B is one of the best I've found for that area (www.avignon-et-provence.com), listing accommodations of all levels and they do a very attractive presentation.

oh, sorry, I see that was Gail not Caroline who stayed there. Just wondered what nationality Jackie and William are, that doesn't sound French.

Christina -We find that many of the hotels we stay in do not like to take credit cards. The commissions are very high for the hotels, and I guess everyone really prefers cash! Even our hotels in Venice and Florence requested a credit card for our deposit, but cash for room payment. Some who accept cards will give you a discount if you pay cash. We use the readily available ATMs, though we would rather charge to get the airline mileage!

I will ask Jackie and William if they will be accepting credit cards in the future. I, too, was surprised at the spelling of their names - expected Guillame(sp?)and Jacqueline from my high school French - but they are very French!

Happy to share any other information with you.
